Director of College Counseling, In-School
Overview
The in-school college counselor (ISCC) is an uncommonly hardworking, resourceful individual who’s passionate about helping BRYC’s Senior Fellows (12th-graders) pursue best-fit, highly selective, post-high school pathways. Unlike BRYC’s flagship after-school programs at our Downtown, Airline, and Iberville campuses, in-school programs take place at select high schools across the Greater Baton Rouge Area, meaning the ISCC will deliver programming directly to seniors at their school during the school day. Ideal candidates have strong writing skills and experience with guiding students and families through the college admissions, financial aid, and transition/matriculation processes. Above all, the ISCC understands that students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds face disproportionate barriers in college admissions, and therefore they are relentless in breaking these barriers so BRYC Fellows can maximize the full benefits of postsecondary degrees.
Duties
Plan & facilitate electric programs
Monday through Friday, throughout the school day, the ISCC will facilitate Senior College Workshop, a program in which BRYC’s seniors complete college process work in the classroom. The ISCC will manage a cohort of 40-50 seniors, which includes making individualized college and scholarship recommendations and offering support with the ACT.
Provide robust support outside of program
The ISCC will closely monitor the progress of Fellows in their cohort, identifying and responding effectively to Fellows’ academic and socioemotional needs, and communicating proactively with guardians, school liaisons, and BRYC team members.
Build strong BRYC culture
The ISCC will be the heartbeat of our Senior Fellow community, building connections with Fellows and guardians to foster a culture in which there is shared pride and purpose around the college process and BRYC experience as a whole. Further, the ISCC will serve as BRYC’s culture liaison, connecting Fellows to the larger BRYC Community at every possible opportunity, and supporting in-school recruitment.
Collaborate with the College Team
With both BRYC’s in-school and after-school teams, partner with lesson plan creation and special events such as college information panels. And, on the rare occasion, be available to step in to support BRYC’s evening after-school college counseling.
Hours
At BRYC, we believe in fostering a culture of productivity and achievement. While our standard workweek is based on a 40-hour schedule, we operate as an objective-driven organization. This means that our team members’ hours are centered around the core functions of their primary roles and the objectives, key results, and actions (OKRAs) they are tasked with accomplishing. By aligning our work hours with specific objectives and outcomes, we ensure that each team member’s time is utilized efficiently and effectively, ultimately contributing to the overall success of our mission.
