Job Title Student Success Coach
Job Description The Student Success Coach is full-time, staff position located on the OCH and LLP campuses, as well as the Tyson Family Center, in South Piedmont’s service areas of Anson and Union Counties. The Student Success Coach will primarily work Monday through Friday, with expectations to work on a Saturday twice a month and adjust weekly schedule as needed. Under the direction of the Director of Academic Advising, the Student Success Coach works within the College’s Student Success area to assist with various retention, persistence, and completion initiatives. The Student Success Coach will advise various student populations with program exploration and selection; guide students on course selection and registration; create individualized student graduation plans; and monitor students’ progress towards the fulfillment of academic goals and requirements. Essential Duties Summary
- Advise and register first-time and returning students, both walk-in and by appointment.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to a designated group of students throughout their academic journey.
- Maintain regular communication with students through monthly check-ins, ensuring students receive the necessary support, encouragement, and resources.
- Audit, monitor, and evaluate individual students’ academic progress.
- Provide academic advising to distance learners via phone and online.
- Interpret testing results relevant to placement decisions.
- Assist with the advisement and registration of high school students in compliance with the North Carolina Career and College Promise regulations both on- and off-site.
- Create college completion and graduation plans.
- Document, support, catalogue, and maintain data and records related to advising sessions and Student Success utilizing various software.
- Educate students about course planning and registration processes both individually and in groups.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge about the College’s programs and requirements; consults with contacts at various transfer institutions regarding course and program transferability, admission and graduation requirements.
- Make appropriate referrals to campus resources for students perceived as at-risk.
- Attend professional development trainings.
- Ensure compliance with FERPA, state law and community college system regulations and college policies and procedures.
- Work variable schedule as needed, including evenings and/or weekends as well as off-site locations.
- Participate in internal teams as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Academic Advising, and/or their designee. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated time-management and communication skills
- Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio script/video scripts Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field
- Bilingual (Spanish)
- Experience working in Academic Advising, Counseling, or related student support role
- Experience working in secondary and higher education
