Director, Career Pathways Salary $60,000.00 – $75,000.00 Annually Description The Director, Career Pathways will develop and lead an educational attainment and workforce development initiative in coordination with key partners (CCC&TI, County Schools, and local Economic Development). The goal of this initiative is to increase the number of students in the county who earn industry-valued postsecondary credentials and thereby help address the county and state educational attainment and workforce gaps and support of the work of organizations such as myFutureNC. The Director, Career Pathways will work closely with the local school system, economic development leaders, college faculty/staff, industry partners, governmental agencies, etc. to align cross-sector collaborations that enhance educational attainment and workforce development efforts. This position will develop and lead pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, and other experiential learning opportunities for students.
Examples of Duties Essential Functions:
Coordinates and implements activities to meet established targets for the workforce development and postsecondary educational attainment goals of the Caldwell-Watauga Educational Attainment Initiative. Works collaboratively with instructional programs, public school partners, economic development leaders, and business and industry to establish and support work-based learning opportunities for students. Serves as a liaison between students and employers for work-based learning activities. Works directly with business and industry to determine employment needs and coordinate efforts to place students in work-based learning experiences such as apprenticeships and internships. Develops relationships with students and parents in order to guide students to successful completion of their high school diploma, work-based learning experiences, and career-ready credentials. Oversees recruitment and retention of students and business partners, developing relationships with students and parents to guide students to success, and coordinating and overseeing support services between the businesses, the community college, the high schools, students, and their families. Develops, registers and monitors business and industry pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs in collaboration with public school partners, economic development partners, community college instructors and workforce development staff, and ApprenticeshipNC. Creates, tracks, and shares data to accurately report work-based learning and educational attainment activities, from recruitment to long-term gainful employment. Organizes and directs activities for career exploration, orientation, signing events, and information sessions to increase awareness of and participation in experiential learning opportunities for students. Assists with providing a continuity of support for participating students across education levels and work-based learning experiences. Collaborates with College and community partners to promote and publicize experiential learning opportunities and their benefits for students. Assists with aligning work-based learning opportunities and related programs with state and industry-recognized credentials. Assists with identifying and securing additional grants and other funding opportunities to support the program. Oversees and manages the budget associated with the program in the county assigned. Prepares and submits all reports and documentation for pertinent College, school district, and state reporting requirements; maintains records for courses and credentials awarded; reports annual statistics as needed. Participates in the development and submission of all required reports associated with external funding sources supporting experiential learning initiatives and activities. Provides regular updates to the Executive Board of the Caldwell-Watauga Educational Attainment Initiative. Supports the College s mission, vision, and core values by adhering to all policies and procedures.
Marginal Functions:
Serves on standing and ad hoc committees and focus groups. Contributes to developing and delivering public information efforts; supports College functions and cultural activities. Assists with the inventory of programmatic equipment; assumes responsibility for labs and other facilities designated primarily for the assigned program. Participates in professional development activities and required employee training. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Working Conditions Knowledge of:

Environmental Conditions:
The Director should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office, classroom workspace, and working closely with others. The Director must maintain the office and teaching environments by maintaining equipment and supplies and ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.
Physical Conditions:
Essential and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods, moderate lifting and carrying, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and extended exposure to computer screens. The Director must maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously. Additionally, the Director must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.
Scheduling Conditions:
This is a full-time, 12-month position that requires the employee to be on campus or at an approved alternate location for at least thirty-six hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-5:00pm, and Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm. This position generally works daytime hours but has the potential for occasional evening or weekend hours.
Traveling Conditions:
Local travel between the Caldwell Campus, Watauga Campus, or any off-campus sites may be needed. Out-of-state travel is limited but may be required for training and conferences.
Experience and Training Experience:
A minimum of five years of relevant experience working in business and industry recruitment, career development, career counseling, workforce development, career and technical education, and/or in a career center is required.
Training:
