Part-Time Career Coach 4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 137 South Post Road, Shelby, NC 28152 Job Description The Career Coach reports to the Director of K-12 Partnerships and will assist high school students with determining career goals and identifying community college programs that would enable students to achieve these goals. The Career Coach will assist with CCP registration and retention at one or two school locations. The Career Coach, while on any high school campus, will obey all local board of education rules and will be subject to the authority of the school building administration. Requires daytime hours; part-time position between 20-28 hours. Essential Duties Summary Career Coach Develop and maintain partnerships with school partners and build relationships with high school counselors and administrators. Advise students on career and pathway planning; help in choosing the appropriate mode of course instruction; advise students on the balance between high school coursework and college rigor; and advise on course selection and developing a program of study for future semesters. Assisting students in completing CCP admission application and registration. Serve as liaison between the high school and academic programs to communicate schedule changes and general problem solving. Assist, in conjunction with Academic Programs, with identifying high school course offerings each term and reviewing high school registration guides. Provide appropriate referrals to the correct resources to address an issue of concern beyond the scope of this position. Conduct effective communication strategies with faculty and staff, parents/guardians, and local employers. Assist with Career Day and College Experience Day with the local high schools. Participate in new student orientations and recruitment activities for the College, along with middle school outreach. Maintain adequate and accurate records on students. Administrative Assist in updating marketing materials annually. Assist in tracking student contact information. Assist in advising students when other coaches are unavailable. Assist in events and outreach preparation. Salary Range Based on experience and Cleveland’s salary structure Required Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor degree in Education or related field required. Skills and Abilities Ability to work effectively and collegially with others. Skill in the use of computers and commitment to use of technology. Experience with current version of MS Office or similar programs Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to anticipate and respond to change in a fast-paced work environment. Provide exceptional customer service with people internal and external to the institution. Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college. Flexible and adaptable to change Ability to multi-task with multiple staff projects simultaneously. Preferred Qualifications Minimum 3 years pre-qualified experience as a high school teacher, counselor, administrator, or direct engagement working with high school students, or as a career/academic advisor preferred. Industry-related career development work experience in business, industry, or labor; or experience with work-based learning (job-shadowing, internships, cooperative education, apprenticeships); or experience in career or grade level counseling preferred. Physical Demands ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information, analyze data, make assessments, and exercise good judgment to make decisions; possess ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus; and effective use of all forms of communication (oral, visual, auditory), including use of computers.
