Job Description

The Assistant Director for Career Development plays a key role in helping students become career-ready and prepared for their next steps after graduation. This position provides career coaching to students in undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as recent graduates, to maximize their career development and readiness, with an increasing focus on proactive programming and scalable career readiness resources and initiatives . In addition to career coaching, this role conducts career development workshops and seminars on topics including self-assessment, resume development, interview preparation, and job search strategies. This role is ideal for a strategic problem-solver who approaches career development with creativity, innovation, and a consultant mindset, seeking to understand student needs, identify gaps, and develop impactful career initiatives. Someone who is curious, adaptable, and student-centered, with a passion for equipping students with the skills and confidence to navigate their careers. The Assistant Director works closely with the Associate Director and a team of professionals on all planning and future initiatives. Reports directly to Associate Director for Career Development. Master’s degree in Higher Education, Human Resources, Counseling, Business, or a closely related field; or bachelor’s plus equivalent and relevant industry-based experience depending on the length and depth of the experience. At least 1 year of experience in career services, counseling, outplacement, recruiting, HR, higher education environment, or relevant field. Knowledge of career development principles and effective coaching strategies. Ability to design and deliver career programming, workshops, and events that scale support for students to enhance career readiness. Proven record of problem-solving with the ability to assess challenges, propose creative solutions, and innovation skills. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to engage students, campus partners and faculty, the public, and other staff members to accomplish office goals. Sound judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance short-term needs and long-term goals. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and sensitive information. Proficiency with relevant computer programs and database entry and management. Ability to work some evening and/or weekend hours as required.
