Position Summary Information Position Summary The Student Support Counselor/Accessibility Coordinator provides essential services to ensure students with disabilities have equal access to education, while also offering support services to all students, promoting academic success and fostering a supportive learning environment. Responsibilities Assist students with disabilities to obtain classroom accommodations that support their academic success.
Ensure college compliance in accordance with ADA, state and federal laws, and North Carolina Community College System regulations.
Monitor ADA regulations and provide ongoing education to faculty and staff regarding ADA guidelines, technical standards, and related issues.
Coordinate assistive technology, interpreters, readers, note-takers, and relevant needs for accommodations.
Provide navigation, academic advising, and registration assistance to ensure students make informed decisions about their academic pathways.
Coordinate proctoring services for students with disabilities.
Collaborate with special programs such as Workforce Innovations and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), Mental Health, and North Carolina Employment and Independence for People with Disabilities (NCEIPD) to provide comprehensive support for students. Implement early intervention strategies and follow-up activities to promote student retention and successful goal attainment. Provide limited personal counseling to support students in achieving personal goals, while promoting and connecting them with appropriate community resources.
Participate in College committees and engage in professional development on and off campus.
Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities Understanding and appreciation of the mission, history, current programs, services, and goals with a specific focus on student access, enrollment, and continuation at Isothermal Community College.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with prospective and current students, employees, and community partners across all levels of the organization.
Exceptional customer service orientation, demonstrating empathy, responsiveness, and a commitment to student success.
Ability to expand knowledge of applicable laws and regulations pertaining to the Americans with Disability Act as they apply to student access to education and information.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
Ability to accurately maintain records and produce comprehensive reports.
Progressive knowledge and ability to operate common technologies, internet platforms, and college-related software, including Office 365, student information system, and applications relevant to the role. Minimum Qualifications Master’s Degree in Counseling, Student Development, Social Work, Psychology, or related field, required
Experience with legal frameworks involving accommodations for students with disabilities and federal laws and regulations, required. Experience with diagnostic assessments, including medical, psychological, and/or educational documentation, required. Preferred Qualifications Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, or Distance Credential Counselor, preferred.
Experience working with people with special needs, preferred.
