Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Secondary Partnerships, the Career Coach is responsible for helping high school students define their career interests and identify community college programs and/or training opportunities to meet their goals. The Career Coach advises high school career development specialists, counselors, teachers, students, and parents about Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways and courses available through the Career and College Promise (CCP) program. This position is stationed on-site at Hunt High School and Fike High School, with time split between both campuses each week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaborates with high school counselors, colleges and career development coordinators (CDCs) to promote CTE degree options/careers and develop Career Development Plans. Assist in the development of CTE career pathways. Provide career exploration/planning, development, and academic/career counseling to high school students.

Engage key stakeholders:

students, counselors, faculty, parents/guardians, through information sessions (Parent Nights, open houses, grade-level meetings, community events, etc.) and related to college opportunities. Participate in school-related activities in which WCC courses, programs, and opportunities for articulated credit are promoted. Maintain accurate and appropriate student records necessary to perform effective academic/career advising and registration for high school students. Provide academic success strategies and supportive interventions to facilitate successful transition from high school to college, foster progression, and promote completion of credentials. Conduct orientations for WCS high school students at the beginning of each semester. Develop partnerships with local business and industries to promote career readiness among students, and develop career exploration opportunities (job-shadowing, internships, industry tours, etc.). Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Secondary Partnerships.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:

Computer systems and related software programs, including spreadsheets, database, and word processing; College policies and procedures and academic program requirements; CCP operating procedures for admissions and placement. Customer Service practices; Educational and occupational counseling methods and practices; Physical layout of the College, including various buildings and room locations; and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Ability to:

Communicate effectively (written and verbal) in a variety of settings with people from diverse backgrounds, educational levels, and age groups; Operate a PC, mobile devices, and related software including Microsoft Office and relevant applications or internet-based platforms; Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and parents/guardians, faculty/staff, and the general public; Independently perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects; Apply organizational and analytical skills with specific attention to detail; Foster a collaborative, team-based work environment with a willingness to see tasks to completion; and Interpret and apply college rules and regulations as they pertain to admissions, CCP requirements, and support services.

Education and Experience:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution is required. Two years of experience working with students in an educational environment (secondary and/or postsecondary preferred) is preferred for this position. Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of career services will be considered.
