Job Description
The Hispanic Center Transition Specialist provides support to students in the programs housed in the Hispanic Center including, but not limited to, Puerta Al Futuro, Latino Promise, HACER, Avanza a FDU, and the Middle School Pathways Program.
Responsibilities include:
representing Hispanic Center programs to prospective students, families, the university community, and external constituents in a positive manner; recruiting new Puerta Al Futuro students and evaluating admissions applications; planning and participating in new student onboarding events; serving as a liaison between students and university departments, including Admissions as enrolled students continue their studies at FDU; supporting students with the non-academic challenges of adjustment to college life; and assisting Hispanic Center staff with activities to promote student retention. This position reports to the Executive Director of the Hispanic Center.1.Bachelor’s degree required. 2.A minimum of 2 years administrative experience in an academic environment. Experience in the following area(s) preferred: program marketing, student recruitment, admissions, new student orientation; academic advisement; cultural and social advisement; Financial Aid; and/or registration/records.3.Must be fully bilingual (English and Spanish) – read, write and speak fluent Spanish and English.4.Must have experience interacting successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds within the Hispanic community and a sensitivity to issues faced by current and prospective students in a university environment. 5.Personal computer proficiency for word processing, spreadsheets and data management. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) preferred. Experience with successful use of database applications, such as Datatel a plus. Ability to quickly learn new programs/applications. 6.Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, ability to collaborate with others, problem solving ability, and organizational skills. Must be able to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals, both inside and outside the university community.7.Valid driver’s license and accessibility to transportation for off-campus travel, as necessary. 8.Must be available to work non-standard hours as required including evenings and weekends. 9.Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
