Job Description AtUncommon, our College Counselors work closely with students andparents to find the right colleges and universities to match theirgoals and enable them to achieve their dreams. College Counselorsensure aligned college matches for students regarding schoolcommunity, size, location, student to faculty ratio, academicinterests, financial aid, and extracurricular interests. Theultimate goal of the College Counselor is to ensure that eachstudent graduates ready to thrive in college and beyond.
Responsibilities:
- You’ll teach 11th and 12th grade collegeseminar courses in which you will guide students through the entirecollege application process. This includes (but is not limited to)exploring careers, identifying most appropriate post-secondarypathways, writing personal statements, building resumes, securingletters of recommendation, and applying for financial aid andscholarships.
- You’ll build a culture of college and careerreadiness amongst all students by creating inspirational andinstructional signage, advising students in the course selectionprocess, and helping plan and execute events such as Career Day,SAT School Day, Senior Signing Day, College Acceptance Forums,College Visits and Alumni Day.
- You’ll collaborate with parentsand families to ensure a positive partnership by providinginformational workshops and hosting individualized meetings.
- You’ll continually refine your expertise by participating inUncommon PD and attending regional and national conferences.
- You’ll build relationships with college admissions offices andadvocate relentlessly on behalf of your students to facilitate theadmissions and financial aid process.
- You’ll support the planningand execution of various college visits and information sessionsfor students of all grade levels. Qualifications
- Passionatecommitment to the mission of Uncommon Schools and investment in ourvision for being an anti-racist organization.
- Prior experienceworking with high school students and families and/or within thecollege admissions field, especially in an urban setting with BIPOCstudents.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, and workindependently.
- Demonstrated flexibility, perseverance, maturityand ability to juggle competing priorities.
- Ability tocommunicate well with others and demonstrate strong interpersonalskills with students, parents, colleagues and community members.
- Skilled in using data to drive improvements in the collegecounseling process.
- Strong digital literacy, including MicrosoftOffice, Word, Excel, Naviance, and PowerSchool.

RequiredExperience:
- Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degreepreferred.
- Minimum of two years experience in an urban districtor charter school setting.

Our compensationphilosophy values equity & fairness and attracting & retaining toptalent. Compensation Compensation for this role is between $56,000to $77,000. Most candidates who meet job description requirementswill receive an offer of $56,000
- $60,000. Starting pay isdetermined using various factors including but not limited torelevant professional development, education certifications, andtenure with Uncommon Schools. Benefits
