Job Description AtUncommon, our College Counselors work closely with students andparents to find the right colleges and universities to match theirgoals and enable them to achieve their dreams. College Counselorsensure aligned college matches for students regarding schoolcommunity, size, location, student to faculty ratio, academicinterests, financial aid, and extracurricular interests. Theultimate goal of the College Counselor is to ensure that eachstudent graduates ready to thrive in college and beyond.

Responsibilities:

You’ll teach 11th and 12th grade college seminarcourses in which you will guide students through the entire collegeapplication process. This includes (but is not limited to)exploring careers, identifying most appropriate post-secondarypathways, writing personal statements, building resumes, securingletters of recommendation, and applying for financial aid andscholarships. You’ll build a culture of college and careerreadiness amongst all students by creating inspirational andinstructional signage, advising students in the course selectionprocess, and helping plan and execute events such as Career Day,SAT School Day, Senior Signing Day, College Acceptance Forums,College Visits and Alumni Day. You’ll collaborate with parents andfamilies to ensure a positive partnership by providinginformational workshops and hosting individualized meetings. You’llcontinually refine your expertise by participating in Uncommon PDand attending regional and national conferences. You’ll buildrelationships with college admissions offices and advocaterelentlessly on behalf of your students to facilitate theadmissions and financial aid process. You’ll support the planningand execution of various college visits and information sessionsfor students of all grade levels. Qualifications Passionatecommitment to the mission of Uncommon Schools and investment in ourvision for being an anti-racist organization. Prior experienceworking with high school students and families and/or within thecollege admissions field, especially in an urban setting with BIPOCstudents. Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, and workindependently. Demonstrated flexibility, perseverance, maturity andability to juggle competing priorities. Ability to communicate wellwith others and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills withstudents, parents, colleagues and community members. Skilled inusing data to drive improvements in the college counseling process.

Strong digital literacy, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel,Naviance, and PowerSchool.

Required Experience:

Bachelor’s degreeis required; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of two yearsexperience in an urban district or charter school setting.

Our compensation philosophy values equity &fairness and attracting & retaining top talent. CompensationCompensation for this role is between $56,000 to $77,000. Mostcandidates who meet job description requirements will receive anoffer of $56,000 – $60,000. Starting pay is determined usingvarious factors including but not limited to relevant professionaldevelopment, education certifications, and tenure with UncommonSchools.
