Job Description

Prevention Educator YWCA of Cortland Cortland, NY 13045 The Prevention Educator works closely with local campus environments to provide prevention education and awareness to students, staff, and others as well as advocacy for victims of campus crime as relates to grant. The position will coordinate closely with the Title IX office and assist with events and learning experiences related to sexual assault prevention.

Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field with at least 1 years’ experience or an associate’s degree with 3-5 years’ experience; background in human service/victim assistance and prevention education or related areas.

Responsibilities:

1. Represent the YWCA in a positive and professional manner in the community, on campuses, at meetings, on social media, at conferences and other events. Attend weekly Aid to Victims of Violence staff meetings as well as required/mandatory training. Be involved with AVV fund-raising, educational & awareness events. 2. Develop and facilitate training to students, residence halls, campus groups, faculty and staff on college campuses, at local high schools, and other community locations on topics of domestic violence, dating violence, healthy relationships, consent, sexual assault awareness, sexual harassment awareness, or other related presentations. 3. Provide advocacy services to victims of domestic violence, rape, sexual assault, and intimate partner violence including, but not limited to conducting intakes, making referrals, providing counseling, crisis intervention, safety planning, transportation, accompaniment to forensic rape exams, law enforcement interviews, arranging emergency housing for victims fleeing domestic violence. Assist clients in filing compensation claims and filing family offense petitions and OVS claims. Assist clients with college student conduct hearing preparation and serve as Student Conduct Hearing Advisor for reporting individuals as needed. 4. Collaborate with local campuses regarding One Love Foundati on, Its On Us initiative and SAFER ( or related programs), and violence prevention committees, as applicable. Work with campus partners to develop education and awareness for rape, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking. Attend routine or “as needed” meetings with Title IX coordinators. 5. Establish times on local campuses where you are visible and available to speak with campus community members who are in need of services or just have questions. 6. Provide AVV program outreach to local partners (including but not limited to: local hospitals, primary care offices, libraries, other community-based organizations, and non-profits), and maintain awareness of and be involved in community events and tabling opportunities. 7. Maintain confidentiality of client information at all times ensuring written information is securely stored as per procedure, Authorizations to Release forms are completed prior to any exchange of information with another entity or person. 8. Maintain documentation and data collection regarding services provided as per grant requirements. Ensure all services provided are documented and included in client files. Prepare and submit reports, Functional Time Record, payroll time sheets, etc.; complete and submit purchase orders with receipts included at the time of transaction. 9. Be familiar with and responsive to the grants that fund the position of Prevention Educator. Maintain frequent contact and positive relationships with grant administrators. 10. Work in a cohesive manner with other advocates to maintain an orderly and consistent implementation of both operations and services for individuals in emergency housing.
