Job Description:
The Outreach Coach
- Mechatronics will assist with student recruitment and onboarding, academic and career planning for both credit-free and credit bearing courses held at DCC Fishkill.
The coach will also convey and interpret DCC’s rules and regulations, academic prerequisites, programs, majors, microcredentials and industry certifications. The coach will assist the student with aligning career goals with job opportunities. Additionally, the coach will work directly with faculty and various resource offices to help with recruitment, student success, retention, and graduation. Through the use of Starfish and other advising programs the coach will proactively reach out to and be available for student advisees regularly. The coach will support the expanded use of the Starfish Early Alert at Dutchess Community College. This will entail the technological capability to work on the administrative components of the software, the ability to creatively troubleshoot and problem solve, and the communication skills to effectively partner with various departments and faculty. Role and Responsibilities Clarify personal values, abilities, interests, and goals for the student’s academics and life.
Help students define and develop realistic educational career plans through schedule planning for each semester, including summer school if appropriate, to ensure each student has an up-to-date academic schedule plan through graduation.
Become knowledgeable about and adhere to institutional policies, procedures, and requirements.
Provide accurate and timely information; communicate information in a useful, efficient, and effective manner.
Recognize and respect students’ diverse backgrounds and possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
Maintain student records and organize resource materials pertinent to each student’s needs.
Manage technology needed to support advising programs, including but not limited to Banner, DegreeWorks, and Starfish.
Maintain and enhance the functionality of Starfish Early Alert
Coordinate with various partners involved with Starfish (faculty, staff, students, and Starfish account managers) in regard to the usage and features of the software.
Create progress surveys twice a semester.
Participate in onboarding and other enrollment initiatives.
Participate in recruitment programs.
Participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional assessment activities
Additional duties as assigned by Department of Workforce Education and Development Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of electrical technology and/or mechatronics is highly desirable.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Concern for student needs in a demanding academic context as well as flexibility, patience, and professional integrity.
The ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
The ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Requirements:
The position will require a combination of day (9 am
- 5 pm) and evening (12
- 8 pm) hours in coordination with program needs at the DCC Fishkill Location (DCC @ Fishkill).
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree, in a field of study that enhances the individual’s ability to assist students as an Academic Advisor or Coach.
A minimum of 2 years of related experience in a college setting, especially in the areas of academic coaching, transfer and/or delivery of academic support services.
Knowledge of electrical technology and/or mechatronics is highly desirable.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Concern for student needs in a demanding academic context as well as flexibility, patience, and professional integrity.
The ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
The ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree, preferably in higher education or a field of study that enhances the individual’s ability to assist students as an Academic Advisor or Coach.
A minimum of 3 years of related experience in a college setting especially in the areas of academic coaching, and/or delivery of academic support services.
Experience working with students in a community college environment

- Mechatronics is a full time, temporary, grant funded position. The current dates of appointment for this position is June 2025
- August 31, 2026 with potential for renewal, grant-funds permitting.
