Director of Physical Therapy Advising Job Description:

The primary responsibility of this academic advisor will be to assist students in navigating their educational journey within the pre-professional phase coursework through qualification to the professional phase of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Daemen University.

Key responsibilities will include:
Academic Planning and Course Scheduling:

Guide students in creating an individualized academic plan for completing prerequisites, Gen Ed coursework, and criteria for progression requirements such as clinical observations, GPA requirements. Assist students in selecting courses and adjusting plans as needed based on academic progress and personal circumstances. Assist faculty with professional phase students who are on academic probation.

Monitoring Academic Progress:

Track student progress through the program, identify at-risk students, and communicate with the pre-professional phase department coordinator. Communicate proactively with students regarding academic performance, department meetings and criteria for progression requirements.

Counseling and Support Services:

Offer support for students facing academic or personal challenges. Connect students with appropriate campus resources such as the Student Academic Success Center for coaching, CHIP Center for mental health services, and others as necessary. Collaboration with

Faculty and Staff:

Work closely with DPT faculty to ensure alignment of academic advising with program goals and policies. Participate in orientation sessions, department meetings, and student success initiatives such as efficient study habits and stress management.

Pre-professional Phase Qualification:

Work closely with department administration on required student qualification requirements for admission to the professional phase.

Data Collection and Reporting:

Track advising outcomes, monitor student satisfaction, and contribute to the program’s accreditation process through data collection and analysis.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following qualifications: Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, or a related field (bachelor’s degree required) Experience in academic advising, preferably in health sciences or a pre-professional level program. Knowledge of the physical therapy profession and educational requirements. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to build relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
