On-Site Specific Responsibilities:

Alumni Support & Advising Provide individualized monthly one-on-one advising to college-going alumni, prioritizing in-person and virtual (Zoom) meetings, with phone or text communication used as supplemental support. Support alumni with navigating academic, financial, emotional, career, campus life, and personal challenges (e.g., financial aid issues, academic probation, mental health referrals). Utilize the College & Matriculation Rubric to create a tiered caseload management model aligned with student needs. Identify and support students in high-risk “red flag” situations (loss of aid, family crises, enrollment lapses, etc) and develop targeted intervention plans. Maintain consistent communication with alumni ensuring ongoing engagement. Provide support to undocumented students navigating legal, financial, and career barriers. Facilitate access to scholarships, internships, and career development opportunities. Support stopped-out students in re-enrollment, transfer, or pursuit of alternative career pathways (e.g., training programs, employment). Work collaboratively with the postsecondary team, Director of Postsecondary Success and Workforce Development, to help students identify the best-fit alternatives to college or to engage with the Alumni Lab program when college is no longer an option or students have stopped out. Senior-Year Transition and Matriculation Support Develop individualized transition plans with College and Career Counselors and seniors in their final trimester at MESA to build rapport, finalize postsecondary plans and navigate college enrollment steps. Address “summer melt” through proactive outreach, workshops, programming, and coordination with partner organizations (e.g., CUNY ASAP, Bottom Line). Teach or push into MESA’s College & Career Bound 12 course as needed to prepare students for postsecondary life. ‍ Alumni Engagement and Events Plan and lead well-attended monthly alumni events that foster community, mentorship, and support tailored to student needs. Events may include workshops, group office hours, outreach to key campus stakeholders, encouragement to participate in campus activities and clubs, and assistance with building career-aligned experiences such as internships. Connect with successful alumni on campus to support and enhance caseload management. Leverage alumni experiences to inform and inspire current MESA students. In collaboration with the postsecondary team, organize alumni career and networking events and workshops focused on life skills and career planning, such as resume building, mock interviews, informational interviews, and job search strategies. Partnership Development Build and maintain strategic relationships with representatives from colleges, CBOs, and community partners to better serve MESA alumni. Coordinate campus visits and act as liaison between students and college support offices. Engage in collaborative problem-solving with institutions to address systemic challenges affecting student persistence by sharing trends and feedback with campus and community partners. ‍ Program Strategy & Data Management Maintain accurate records of alumni contact information, academic progress, and including transcripts, financial aid documentation in OverGrad. Collect, analyze, and act on data related to alumni persistence and completion, using platforms such as the National Student Clearinghouse, CUNY Data Share, OverGrad, and internal systems to inform strategy and prioritize support. Track student milestones and use data to inform campus visits, programming, and partnership needs.

Keep alumni contact information current and use CRM or spreadsheet tools to track outreach and outcomes. Provide regular updates and insights to leadership and relevant school teams to inform strategy refinement, highlight areas of concern, and support continuous improvement. ‍

Qualifications:

(1) Minimum Bachelor’s degree, Master’s Degree preferred; (2) Preferred minimum of three years experience in college advising, college access/ persistence, higher education, or youth development; (3) Strong knowledge of postsecondary systems including CUNY, SUNY, FAFSA, SAP, and transfer processes; (4) Deep knowledge of college access and persistence challenges, especially within the

CUNY/ SUNY

systems; (5) Belief in and alignment with MESA’s core values, educational philosophy and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; (6) Experience working with population of first-generation college-going students from urban setting; (7) Willingness to travel periodically for campus visits; (8) Spanish speakers are a strong plus. ‍ Salary $75,000 – $90,000, based on experience.
