With skills-building activities that range from volunteer activities to pre-vocational training to on-the-job coaching, Supported Employment helps build careers. YAI’s employment program also conducts trainings that encourage employers to hire job-seekers with intellectual and developmental disabilities. YAI is looking for a dynamic Business Engagement Specialist / Job Developer to join our team and support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in achieving their employment goals.

Location:

Various community sites in Brooklyn, NY (travel required)

Schedule:

Full-time, M-F 9a-5p with flexibility for occasional evenings/weekends

What You’ll Do:

Build employer partnerships : Research, outreach, and meet with businesses to create employment opportunities for the people we support. Support job seekers : Match the skills and interests of the people we support with job opportunities and help them prepare for employment. Coordinate with teams : Work closely with Job Coaches and employers to ensure a successful employment experience. Conduct assessments : Observe and assess job readiness through shadowing, mock interviews, and community-based assessments. Provide coaching : Step in as a Job Coach when needed to support new hires on the job. Document progress : Maintain clear and accurate records using digital systems like Salesforce and Digital Agency. Lead with person-centered values : Use respectful, strengths-based communication to help people set and achieve personal employment goals. Stay organized : Manage time, priorities, and regional travel efficiently.

What You’ll Need:

Required- High school diploma or equivalent At least 1 year of experience in: Sales, marketing, or recruiting (e.g., lead generation, outreach), or Human services/ I/DD field (e.g., service coordination, assessments, job placement.) Strong communication and time management skills Basic Microsoft Office skills; willingness to learn other platforms (Salesforce, Digital Agency) Flexibility to travel regularly within assigned region Willingness to work occasional evenings/weekends if needed Preferred- Bachelor’s degree 2+ years supporting individuals with barriers to employment Personal or professional experience with the I/DD community Valid NYS driver’s license (especially important in areas with limited public transit)
