Youth and Family Peer Workforce Expansion We believe that in-person operations are the best way to serve our clients, both directly and through essential operational support. This position requires in-person attendance with travel to three different partner sites in Queens as well as one central Brooklyn site.

SUMMARY:

The Peer Employment Coordinator liaisons with three Queens Community Partners to recruit at least 45 participants for a peer training program that will support a youth or family peer certification to be completed in one year. The staff will provide support throughout the training process to both the Partners and the participants to ensure participants have access technology and information to complete the specified peer certification. As training is completed, the Peer Employment Coordinator will assist with locating potential partners for employment opportunities for the certified youth or family peers. During the course of this project, the Peer Employment Coordinator will provide support, information and engagement strategies to both the participants and the three Queens Community Partners, and, when necessary, identify solutions to barriers for success of the project. The Peer Employment Coordinator will be expected to meet stakeholders across communities and speak, from the point of lived experiences, to the benefits of having peers as part of the service continuums.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Successfully use one’s lived experience to ensure the engagement, retention and successful certification of peer participants as youth or family peers.
  • Assist 3 Queens Community Partners to build a Peer Employment and Certification track at their employment center. Ensure information for recruitment is peer focused and informed about the value of peer work.
  • Provide information and resources about the youth and family peer certification processes to both the Community Partners and the peer participants.
  • Ensure the Community Partners can provide physical and technological access for participants to complete the required online peer certification process.
  • Track engagement and successes of participants; identify barriers to engagement, completion and employment placements. Provide potential solutions to barriers.
  • Identify placement opportunities for participants who have completed the peer certification.
  • Engage and establish trusting and collaborative relationships with providers and employers to achieve competitive peer employment or training in the community.
  • Use background information and work experiences related to employment opportunities to better access and completion of the peer certification by participants.
  • Oversee job development and job search activities for peer positions.
  • Identify and contact potential employers or training positions for peers; communicate benefits of peer services and service training placements.
  • Assist in matching of peers with available training and/or employment opportunities.
  • Offer personalized ongoing support to help maintain training/employment placement.
  • Incorporate feedback from peer participants in job support plans and placements.
  • Provide education and support to potential employers regarding employment or training placements.
  • Provide outreach to peers at risk of disengagement from training and placement.
  • Organize and participate in stakeholder meetings to coordinate peer training and placement activities.
  • Assist with the development of participants’ training and employment plan/goals and offer support as needed for completion of training and engagement with placement.
  • Organize monthly peer support group for participants during training and early placement.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) across stakeholder involvement activities with the ability to find solutions.
  • Committed to recovery and wellness with a personal history and understanding of recovery and the work of peers in the area of behavioral health and/or substance treatment.
  • Ability to manage time, complete tasks independently and report on project goals.

Document partnership/collaboration with community partnerships and collaborations to enhance project activities. Perform other work-related duties as assigned. Available to travel and work evening and weekend hours as required by the grant and agency needs. Attend all required management and staff meeting and complete all CCBHC and organizational trainings.

EXPERIENCE

At least 2 years of peer work in a mental health. At least 1 year with coordinating peer employment activities. Experience with adults and teens, preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication. Well organized with strong time management skills. Knowledge regarding peer training and certification programs in New York. Enthusiasm and self-motivation regarding identifying training/placement needs and obtaining related resources. Experience navigating behavioral health systems and substance treatment systems. Able to work independently and as a member of a team. Excellent interpersonal skills, including being able to maintain a professional temperament with all stakeholders. Ability to work with potentially challenging individuals. Comfortable with community outreach and developing placements. Comfortable and competency working with racially, culturally, religiously and ethnically, linguistically, differently abled diverse communities, including but not limited to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. skill in a language other than English is valued.

QUALIFICATIONS

NYS Certified Peer Specialist (NYCPS) At least 2 years of leadership experience
