Added – 06/16/25Adolescence IDD Assessor (NYC) Community Outreach & Social ServicesNYC, New York | Join Our Team and Make a Difference in New York Communities! 1st Choice is seeking a Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) Assessor to conduct assessments for children and adolescents (ages 21 and under) with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). In this role, you will use the CANS tool to evaluate each individual’s strengths, needs, and circumstances to inform care planning and service delivery. This position supports a statewide initiative in partnership with a nationally recognized organization and plays a vital role in ensuring young individuals with IDD receive the services and supports necessary for their development and well-being. Key Responsibilities:
Schedule and conduct in-person assessments for children and adolescents (ages 21 and under) in home and community settings, as part of a hybrid work model. Travel throughout the NYC region to meet with youth, families, and caregivers. Use a person-centered interview approach to assess developmental, behavioral, and environmental needs and strengths. Interview caregivers, service providers, and other stakeholders to gather accurate assessment data. Review relevant records and incorporate multiple data sources to support accurate CANS coding. Enter assessment data into state-mandated systems and ensure documentation meets compliance standards. Maintain productivity and quality benchmarks as defined by the program. Coordinate interpreter services when needed for languages other than English and Spanish.

Bachelor’s degree in a human services field
Experience:
Required:
At least one (1) year of direct experience working with children and/or adolescents with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD)
Preferred:
Experience conducting assessments and/or prior CANS experience
Skills & Competencies:
Strong analytical thinking and decision-making skills Excellent written and verbal communication abilities Capable of working independently while maintaining productivity Proficient in Microsoft Word, email, and web-based documentation systems Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
