Job Description

Position Title:

Career Specialist

Department:

Instructional Services Division

Reports To:

Coordinator of Counseling/Career Services

FLSA Status:

Non-Exempt

Summary:

Provides career services to schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate and present career development workshops in and guidance for students.
Assist schools in promoting the goals of quality career development of students in middle school and high school.
Assist school counselors and students in identifying and accessing career information and resource material.
Provide educators, parents, and students with information on career and technology education programs offered in the district.
Support students in the exploration of career clusters and the selection of an area of academic focus within a cluster of study.
Learn and become familiar with ways to improve and promote career development opportunities within the district.
Attend continuing education programs on the certified career development facilitator curriculum sponsored by the State.
Assist with the selection, administration, and evaluation of career interest inventories.
Assist with the implementation of the district’s student career plan or individual graduation plan.
Plan and develop parent information on career development.
Coordinate summer intersession events, career events, career classes, job shadowing opportunities, and career programming.
Coordinate community resources and citizens representing diverse occupations in career development activities for parents and students.
Assist with the usage of computer assisted career guidance systems.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and/or

Experience:

Bachelor’s degree
Such alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must hold current Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) or complete all requirements to complete the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) credentialing from the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) within two years of hire.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and the ability to interact positively with schools and community. Ability to handle a multitude of responsibilities with minimal supervision. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as simple instructions, short correspondence and memos, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write and/or type routine reports and correspondences. Ability to speak effectively before groups of district personnel or organizations.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems. Ability to quickly assess employee, departmental, and administrative needs and provide timely feedback.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and district employees. Ability to perform duties with a high level of detail and accuracy. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group.
