DESCRIPTION
The Academic & Career Success Coach (Programming & Initiatives) supports student persistence and early career development through engaging programs, individualized coaching, and instructional support. With a particular emphasis on programming and outreach, this role helps coordinate initiatives that connect students to academic, personal, and career success resources. The coach also plays a key role in the Berry Beginnings summer bridge program and foundational student success courses. This position works closely with the Career & Professional Development team to support students in exploring career pathways and preparing for future opportunities.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Student Programming & Outreach Develop, coordinate, and implement student-centered programs and events that promote academic success and engagement; responsibilities include planning informed by student needs and institutional goals, as well as managing logistics such as scheduling, space reservations, marketing, materials, and coordination with company partners to ensure effective delivery. Collaborate with the Career & Professional Development Center on career-related programming, outreach, and event coordination, incorporating guidance and feedback to ensure alignment with departmental goals and institutional priorities. Support the development, delivery, and promotion of Berry Beginnings programming, including workshops, activities, onboarding communication, and outreach to prospective or incoming students; this role is expected to assume increasing responsibility for coordination of the program over time. Supervise and mentor student workers assigned to the Center for Student Success, providing guidance, task coordination, and developmental feedback to support both program operations and student learning. Assess the effectiveness of events and programs through attendance tracking, participant feedback, and reflection on learning outcomes; prepare a semesterly summary report highlighting program outcomes and suggested improvements for future offerings. Student Support & Coaching Serve as the primary success for students enrolled in the Berry Beginnings program, building and maintaining supportive coaching relationship from the summer bridge experience through graduation. Conduct regular check-ins with assigned students during the academic year to monitor academic progress, promote engagement, connect students to campus resources, and contribute to ongoing program assessment. Provide foundational career exploration support to students, including major/career conversations, interest assessments, and guidance on how to access campus resources; refer students to Career & Professional Development staff for advanced services such as resumes, cover letters, internships, and job search preparation. Assist with the promotion, preparation, and execution of career-related events, including career fairs, employer panels, and classroom presentations, as directed by the Career & Professional Development Center Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for international students, maintaining compliance with SEVIS regulations and supporting student needs in coordination with relevant campus offices. Instruction & Course Support Teach assigned student success courses, delivering content that supports academic and personal development, aligns with institutional learning outcomes, and fosters an inclusive and engaging classroom environment. Professional Development Pursue professional development opportunities to enhance skills in student success coaching, academic programming, and career development, contributing to evolving support strategies across both academic and career readiness initiatives Additional Notes Occasional evening and weekend hours are required to support student programming, events, and special initiatives.
EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Master’s degree in higher education, student development, counseling, or a related field. Experience working with college students in academic success, student support, or career development settings. Strong skills in organization, communication, program planning, and cross-functional collaboration. Experience facilitating workshops, teaching courses, or delivering student development content in a college setting. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic campus environment.
Preferred:
Experience in academic coaching, career programming, or summer bridge programs. Familiarity with SEVIS compliance and/or prior experience working with international student populations. Experience supervising student staff or peer mentors. Understanding of the challenges and strengths of students from a variety of backgrounds, including first-generation, international, and transitional college students.
