Purpose and Functions:
The WIOA Career Advisor plays a vital role in delivering individualized career guidance, job placement assistance, and support services to help customers achieve long-term self-sufficiency through gainful employment. The advisor is responsible for case management, program delivery, job readiness facilitation, and collaboration with local employers, training institutions, and social service agencies.
General Responsibilities:
- Interview and assess customers to determine program eligibility, service needs, and appropriate training or support.
- Develop and maintain individualized career plans, including training goals, job search strategies, and supportive service coordination.
- Assist participants in identifying their strengths, interests, skills, and career goals to develop realistic employment pathways leading to self-sufficiency.
- Motivate and encourage customers through regular contact (minimum one to two times monthly) and post-employment follow-up to support job retention and advancement.
- Facilitate job readiness workshops and provide hands-on assistance with resumes, applications, interview techniques, and career development.
- Build and maintain relationships with local employers to support job placements, internships, and work experience opportunities.
- Collaborate with American Job Center staff, workforce partners, training providers, and community agencies to coordinate comprehensive client services.
- Ensure complete, accurate, and timely documentation of all services and interactions in electronic case management systems such as Jobs4TN.
- Track customer attendance, case notes, and performance benchmarks in accordance with program guidelines and funding requirements.
- Provide referrals to community and social service agencies as needed to address barriers to employment.
- Adjust coaching techniques based on individual client needs and learning styles, providing clear expectations and continuous support.
- Maintain a customer service-oriented approach with all clients, partners, and colleagues.
- Meet all required performance goals and outcomes for assigned programs.
- Participate in cross-training and provide support across other programs and offices operated by Workforce Essentials, Inc. as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the success of career services programs.
- Some travel may be required within the local workforce area.

Qualifications:
- College Degree in education, social work, public welfare, human services, psychology, sociology, vocational rehabilitation, public administration, counseling or other related field is preferred. High school diploma required.
- A minimum of two years of previous work experience in staffing, employment and training, alternative adult education, counseling or related field is required. Nonprofit experience and training in trauma- informed care, family-centered coaching, and ACES preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid, unrestricted driver’s license, a good driving record, and maintain vehicle insurance.
Position may require some travel; reimbursed at the state travel rate.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualities:
- Strong knowledge of local labor market trends, community resources, human service agencies, and training institutions and their programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively engage with clients, employers, colleagues, and partners.
- Demonstrated strong customer service orientation and the ability to work respectfully and effectively with a diverse and demanding customer base.
- Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Skilled in conducting and interpreting basic skills assessments to guide career planning and service delivery.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and related software programs and online information systems; experience with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other virtual meeting platforms preferred.
- Working knowledge of Excel, including the ability to create and manipulate data within spreadsheets.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet performance goals in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with moderate supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Position Type & Expected Hours of Work:
This is a salary, full time position based on a 37.5 hour work week. This position follows the work schedule of the American Job Center Hours. Unless otherwise stated, normal work hours of work are 8:00 – 4:30, Monday through Friday. This position may require the flexibility to modify work schedule if needed to meet the needs of customers and the American Job Center.
