Career Development and Services Summary:

The Director of Career and Leadership Development provides a variety of career services to students and alumni. The Director will assist students in career exploration, internships, job search skills, and graduate school preparation. This position is also responsible for assisting the variety of programs offered through the Tennessee Wesleyan University Career Development Office.

Reports to:

Vice President for Student Life Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Serve as a success coach to assist with the university’s retention efforts
Create innovative ways to implement the functions of the Career Development Office that are appropriate for our student population
Develop relationships in the community, in other major cities, and with companies and organizations in order to establish internships and possible job opportunities for Tennessee Wesleyan University students and alumni
Advise students through the graduate school process, entrance requirements, maintain entrance exam registration and test prep materials
Assist students with job or career search activities (resume writing workshops, mock interviews, etc.)
Work with academic departments to strengthen the Internship Program at the university
Maintain the job announcement system
Coordinate and oversee on campus Career Fairs for TWU students (major specific or all majors)
Coordinate with the Alumni Office to develop and maintain the Tennessee Wesleyan University Alumni career network
Maintain appropriate assessment/evaluation information such as, but not limited to, following the progress of employment and maintaining the data of students up to one year after graduation
Develop annual goals, objectives, assessment, and updates that support the department mission and contribute to the greater mission of the institution. Follow the policies set forth in the appropriate employee handbook and subsequent updates or changes including, but not limited to, travel, professional development, purchasing and reimbursements, etc.
Foster professional development and compliance
Oversee the Emerging Leaders Program by identifying participants, developing speaker series, etc.

Student Life Qualifications:

Masters preferred, Bachelors required, in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Student Development, or related field, and experience in student affairs administration. Experience in career services or human resources is required. Successful candidates will have excellent computer and communication skills, enjoy working with various groups of people, possess the ability to manage multiple projects at one time, be able to maintain confidentiality, and be a team player.
