This position plays a vital role in student case management, social and wellness programming, and mentoring curriculum development. The coordinator ensures data-informed tracking of mentorship activity and facilitates alignment between mentoring supports and students’ classroom experiences. This role requires strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills to maintain accurate documentation, develop resources, and foster collaborative relationships with campus departments and community mental health partners. The Mentorship Coordinator supervises peer mentors and GRAs, engages faculty mentors, monitors program outcomes, and supports transition programming from high school to college. The position also supports event planning, family engagement, and professional development coordination. The Mentorship Coordinator reports to the Director of FSL and collaborates closely with other program coordinators and university stakeholders. Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 180,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Mentorship Program Management and Supervision Oversee all FSL peer and faculty mentorship program components, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and quality assurance. Supervise Graduate Assistants and Student Workers assigned as peer mentors, ensuring they meet performance expectations and adhere to program guidelines. Review mentor documentation and attendance reports; provide timely feedback and intervene when issues arise. Maintain and continuously improve the mentor matching system to support appropriate pairings based on student goals, compatibility, and academic needs. Serve as a liaison to faculty mentors; distribute materials, respond to inquiries, and align mentorship efforts with academic learning and career development outcomes in coordination with the Learning Specialist. Student Development and Case Management Deliver structured case management for assigned students using a goal-setting framework emphasizing academic, social, and wellness development. Create and maintain mentoring-related resources, including wellness guides, executive functioning tools, and social skills curricula. Lead social skills, emotional regulation, and college readiness workshops. Support incoming students through summer transition initiatives and mentoring-based onboarding experiences from high school to college. Data Oversight, Reporting, and Strategic Collaboration Collect and analyze mentorship participation data, service hours, and related outcomes; ensure all documentation aligns with internal tracking and scholarship requirements. Compile semester reports and present key mentorship outcomes during internal evaluations, including Core Retreats. Coordinate mentorship-related events and manage associated budgetary needs, including professional development, recognition initiatives, and family engagement activities. Foster partnerships with on-campus resources (e.g., Foy Wellness Center) and off-campus providers (e.g., ABA therapy, mental health services) to expand student access to mentoring and wellness support. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Comprehensive understanding of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including its impact on learning, communication, executive functioning, and social development in postsecondary settings. Demonstrated experience with peer and/or faculty mentoring programs, including mentor supervision, training, and performance evaluation. Strong case management skills, including individualized planning, goal-setting, progress documentation, and student coaching. Ability to design and implement mentoring-related resources such as social skills curricula, executive functioning tools, and wellness-based materials. High level of organizational ability, with experience managing concurrent priorities such as program logistics, student support needs, data collection, and event planning. Skilled in professional communication—both written and verbal Familiarity with FERPA, ADA, and best practices for supporting neurodiverse students in higher education. Competence with software tools used for tracking student engagement and support services, including Microsoft Office and other student information systems. Capacity to work independently and as part of a team, with a solution-oriented mindset and commitment to continuous program improvement. Physical Requirements Occasional standing, walking, and lifting of materials (up to 20 lbs.) for workshops, outreach events, and mentoring activities. Availability to attend evening and weekend events related to mentoring, parent engagement, transition programming, and professional development Ability to travel locally and out-of-state for conferences, training sessions, and community outreach as needed. Required Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Disability Studies, Research Methods, or a related field. One year of experience working with neurodiverse individuals (paid or unpaid experience accepted). Experience in case management, mentoring program coordination, or wellness-based student support services. Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting. Excellent communication skills, with experience in public speaking, workshop facilitation, and student engagement. Knowledge of FERPA, ADA, and best practices for neurodiversity support in higher education. ASD training verification is required within six months of employment (certification will be provided if not already certified).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree and experience working in a higher education setting with individuals with ASD. Familiarity with wellness, social skills programming, executive functioning strategies, and mentoring curriculum design.
