JOB TITLE
Lifeline Certified Recovery Coach SUMMARY:
The Lifeline Certified Recovery Coach works to reduce stigma related to the disease of addiction and increase community support for policies that provide for treatment and recovery services. Lifeline Recovery Coaches provide assistance to individuals who present at a hospital Emergency Room or Emergency Department for substance abuse, misuse, or overdose as well as provide educational presentations for civic groups, faith based organizations, and community organizations to increase the understanding of the disease of addiction and support for recovery strategies.
Lifeline Coaches are the point of contact in community for accessing recovery programs, providing educational presentations; and facilitating communication and coordination of substance abuse treatment and recovery services to individuals who have been admitted to medical hospitals for an abuse of substances or overdose and would benefit from referral and linkage to treatment and recovery support services.
A Lifeline Coach must be a person with lived experience who has met the criteria for a substance abuse disorder at some point in their adult life. They must receive certification from the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services as a Peer Support Recovery Specialist.
A Recovery Coach must demonstrate stability in their own recovery for a significant period of time and demonstrate a willingness to identify self as a person in recovery.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
High school graduate/GED.
Licensure:
Valid driver’s license with “F” endorsement in TN. No endorsement is required in VA.
Certification:
Certification as a Peer Support Recovery Specialist from the respective state department, either current or in process.
Experience:
Past/present utilization SUD services required.
Knowledge/Skills:
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to drive and has own transportation.
Must have intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office programs.
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to individuals in recovery.
Must have the ability to work as a team member and function well in a variety of work settings.
Must have excellent reading comprehension and retention of information.
Must have the ability and willingness to accept direction and adhere to appropriately established boundaries.
Must posses the ability to present lived experience in a group setting.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To increase easy access to evidence based treatment and recovery support programs to individuals in ERs/EDs/ hospitals who present with substance use related issues.
2. To assist the TN RedLine operated by Tennessee Association of Alcohol, Drug, and other Addiction Services (TAADAS) in providing warm hand-offs and direct referrals to TDMHSAS funded treatment and/or recovery services.
3. To provide enhanced follow-up with referral resources to treatment and/or recovery services.
4. Coordinate with community partners to increase the availability of evidence-based recovery strategies such as, but not limited to, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA). In addition, collaborate with state recovery court system, substance abuse prevention coalitions, and faith-based organizations to engage individuals into evidence-based recovery programs.
5. Deliver presentations to civic groups on stigma associated with substance abuse and addiction. Orient individuals to the agency and programs.
6. Develop supportive relationships with individuals in recovery, and family members as appropriate.
7. Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to recovery philosophy.
8. Demonstrate commitment to continued education on wellness and recovery.
9. Participate in required meetings and trainings as determined by supervisor/ Project Lifeline.
10. Assist individuals in discussing and identifying personal goals for recovery.
11. Maintain accurate peer support records to standard.
12. Model hope, personal responsibility, regular use of wellness tools (such as WRAP), and self-advocacy by sharing his or her personal recovery story, how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained
13. Assist professional staff in identifying program environments that are conducive to recovery; lend own unique insight and what makes recovery possible.
14. Attend relevant seminars, meetings, and in-service trainings, including out-of town trainings, as directed.
15. Provide assistance/ education to hospital staff to educate them on Lineline services to the community.
16. Responsible for working independently in office setting or other community location.
17. All other duties as assigned.
