The physician has the responsibility for the medical care andtreatment of patients rendered by the hospice interdisciplinaryteam (IDT) and shall consult and cooperate with the patient’sattending physicians. The physician provides direction and guidanceto the staff and volunteers of the hospice IDT to assure themaintenance of quality standards of care for patients and families.
Actively participates in the clinical education and training forhospice patient care, admissions, and administrative personnel. Thephysician has the responsibility for the medical care and treatmentof patients rendered by the hospice interdisciplinary team (IDT)and shall consult and cooperate with the patient’s attendingphysicians. The physician provides direction and guidance to thestaff and volunteers of the hospice IDT to assure the maintenanceof quality standards of care for patients and families. Activelyparticipates in the clinical education and training for hospicepatient care, admissions, and administrative personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a member in good standing on the medical staff of anaccredited hospital in the state where the hospice is located. Knowledge of the principles and practice of primary medicalcare, with at least a working knowledge of oncology. Knowledge of palliative medicine, with particular emphasis oncontrol symptoms associated with terminal illness. Registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency to writescheduled prescriptions. Graduate of an accredited school ofmedicine or osteopathy with current license to practice in thestate where the hospice program in located. Boardeligible/certified in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, or otherrelated specialty with a working knowledge of the principles ofpalliative medicine and symptom management.
