To work closely with one or more identified handicapped learners ona regular basis in an effort to provide them with the physical helpand emotional support they need to gain maximum benefit fromregular and/or special education programs
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the student(s) to whom assigned in such physical tasksas putting on and taking off outerwear, moving from room to room,using the lavatory, and so on Hears the student(s) in recitation, reading, and othercurriculum tasks, guiding and helping them but not teachingthem Performs simple errands and tasks for student(s) such assharpening pencils, carrying lunch trays and the like Under supervision of the teacher, works with small groups ofstudents to reinforce material initially introduced by theteacher Establishes as fully as possible a supportive and sympatheticrelationship with the student(s) without fostering or encouragingintense emotional involvement Serves as a resource person, if and when requested, to thestudent personnel evaluation team conferring about one of thestudents to whom assigned Perform medically-related services for exceptional student(s)as assigned or delegated by a nurse, physician, or therapist forwhich training has been provided Provides assistance to student(s) in the areas of hygiene andnutrition, including toileting, bathing and feeding based upon thestudent’s individual program Notifies teachers and parent when medication administered atschool is no longer in supply or when medication effectschange Provides assistance in emergency situations to any student(s)who is health impaired, wheelchair bound, or seizuredisordered Assist other classroom when primary student is not present
