PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Home Trainer provides needed support, supervision, coaching, mentoring and training to developmentally disabled individuals in their home and work environment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education and Licenses/Certifications High School diploma (and/or GED) Minimum Job Requirement Must be 21 years of age Must pass a drug screen, MVR, MS State Background Check and Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry Clearance Check; pass a physical examination & TB Skin Test Lifting Requirements of 50 lbs Valid Mississippi Driver’s License and Clear Driving Record Age of Client Population Served Demonstrates competence and continues training in age-specific competencies for adult IDD clients. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Mandated Reporter. Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate working knowledge of computers. Must be knowledgeable about working with adults who are developmentally disabled and/or conduct disordered and/or mentally disabled. Flexible to changing situations, staff and client. Sensitive to the needs of client and their families. Understands and practices Universal Precautions. Independent discretion/decision making within the scope and responsibility of the position. Handles multiple priorities. Manages emotions and is able to make decision under pressure. Manages stress appropriately. Works alone effectively. Essential Functions Maintains a daily contact summary log on individuals and other records as requested by Executive Director and Residential Habilitation Plans. Coaches client’s manners and etiquette with special attention given to mealtime and proper respect for elders and guests. Coach’s clients on activities of daily living to include cooking, cleaning, good personal hygiene skills, social skills, and safety. Ability to give simple clear instructions, patience with the slow changes, the ability to communicate in a mode effective with the individual’s learning needs and style. Teaches care and respect for Bridgeway property and property of others. Assists clients in maintaining individual medication usage. Reports all undesirable behavior, such as stealing, inappropriate sexual conduct, intimidation, disobedience and/or disrespect to Executive Director. Mentors the client in developing relationships between employer, workers and other community resources. Must interact with individuals who receive Supported Employment services. Follows training guidelines of regulatory agencies. Supervise daily household chores and prevocational/vocational chores Documents all home training performed to include date, location, attendees and subject content. Reports unusual incidents through appropriate Risk Management, clinical and safety channels. Ensures clients’ rights are protected. Is knowledgeable of and follows all safety procedures. Implements Saint Francis Ministries policies and follows directives as required. Follows and adheres to all pertinent Saint Francis Ministries Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), rules, personnel policies and procedures; related accreditation and licensure standards; and federal, state and local rules, statutes, regulations, and contractual terms. Non-essential Functions Other duties as assigned. Will participate in a minimum of 4 hours orientation, 20 hours initial training and 30 hours every two-years in-service education
