Nature of Work
The EC caregiver position would provide for the daily needs of students in addition to maintaining a clean, safe and healthy indoor and outdoor environment conducive to optimal growth and development of student. An employee in this class also provides support to the teacher in the instruction of students. A wide variety of tasks are performed to support the teacher in the teaching-learning process for students. The work is directed by specific instructions, precedents and established policy. Problems are solved through the exercise of judgment in selecting the best course of action to be taken. Errors are expected to be recognized promptly by the supervisor and corrected with little negative consequence. The work is performed under the limited supervision of the teacher and/or principal.
An employee in this class shall obtain and maintain training for bus monitoring, monitoring a school bus or activity bus to safely transport students to and from school, on field trips, and otherwise as assigned by the principal or designee.
Education / Experience / Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Experience in regulated child care
Must possess or willing to obtain and maintain bus monitoring training for school buses within 90 days of employment Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the classroom teacher assigned
Assisting student(s) with diapering, toileting and handwashing routines
Assistingstudent(s) with mealtimes, rest times and other transitions during the day
Assisting student(s) and parents with daily arrival and departure
Preparing the classroom for mealtimes, social times, instruction, and centers
Assisting with the daily maintenance of the program including, but not limited to, meal reporting, attendance reporting, accident reporting and daily care logs
Building trusting relationships with student(s) and parents
Responding to student(s) needs and wants
Supporting student(s) learning through play and verbal interactions
Modeling good language and vocabulary skills for young children
Fostering social and emotional development
Performing housekeeping duties such as laundry, cleaning and disinfecting, and changing of linens
Sanitizing sensory tools/toys and equipment
Keeping the classroom environment clean, safe, orderly andanized for learning
Ride buses and perform duties as a bus monitor
Performing other assigned duties necessary to maintain program quality and compliance
Assists in data collection, instructional duties, and reports student progress to teacher
Participates in appropriate workplace staff development.
Demonstrates professional and ethical behavior
Demonstrates passion, commitment, and loyalty to the values, priorities, and goals of the Craven County School System.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge and experience working with young children
CPR and First Aid certification is recommended
SIDS certification recommended
Willingness to work with colleagues to support the overall goals of the program
Skill in verbal and written communication
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Participate in appropriate staff development opportunities
Demonstrate professional and ethical behavior
Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
Ability to sit on the floor, crawl, stoop, bend, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, lift and walk
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to perform medium work exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must meet the physical demands necessary to obtain and maintain bus monitoring certification.
