Scheduled hours:
3 pm – 11 pm Pay range $13-16.00 per hr. (optional opt-out) Every other Weekend is Required Applicants must pass a background check and drug screen
Position Purpose/Summary:
The Personal Care Aide, or PCA is responsible for performing a variety of duties, including providing personal care needs for assisted living residents, adult day services participants, and/or clients receiving at-home services.
Essential Functions:
1. Safeguards clients’ (including residents, participants, and at-home clients) rights and treats all individuals with respect and dignity. This includes maintaining confidentiality at all times and allowing clients to make choices in their care and daily routine. 2. Assists client with activities of daily living including, but not limited to, walking, transference, eating, toileting, dressing, nail care, and incontinence care as needed. 3. Promotes client independence while giving special attention to individual limitations and/or disabilities. 4. Communicates need for supplies with supervisor or family member. 5. May accompany the client to appointments, as directed. Follows established van safety guidelines, maintains safety of client while on the van, assists client with entering and exiting the van. 6. Collaborates with Health Care Coordinator in implementation of care plan as directed, and reports concerns regarding status of client immediately. Obtains vital signs and weight as requested. 7. Is responsible for meal and snack preparation as needed. Follows client’s dietary restrictions and respects client’s likes and dislikes. 8. Coaches clients with activities to enhance participation as indicated; assists Life Enrichment Director in carrying out activities as requested. 9. Participates in staff training, including CPR certification and first aid training as required. 10. Assists in keeping the client’s room, home, or adult day center clean and safe. Reports on maintenance or safety issues as instructed. 11. Reflects LSC’s mission, vision, values, and customer service standards in daily interactions. 12. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications (Minimum Job Requirements):
Education:
Ability to demonstrate proficiency by completing the Personal Care Aide Skills List.
Experience:
One year of related experience caring for impaired adults.
Specific skills/abilities:
Ability to communicate with adults who are in varying stages of aging or disability; attention to detail and attentive; strong interpersonal and time management skills. Specialized knowledge, licenses, etc.: 80-hour PCA course (required in assisted living community).
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
1. Physical exertion involving pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 35 pounds and occasionally lifting weights up to 50 pounds. 2. May require prolonged standing and/or walking during which time objects are transported. 3. May require occasional bending, squatting, or reaching repeatedly. 4. Able to assist in the repositioning and transferring of individuals of varying weights following established safe lifting procedures. 5. Ambulatory throughout the facility.
