Position Overview:
The Personal Care Aide is a member of the Courtyards team who assists in meeting the personal care, social, and environmental needs of the Courtyard residents.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Appropriately assist clients with personal care activities in accordance with the personal services care plan including Baths (tub, shower, bed bath), mouth-care, denture-care, skincare, foot-care, ambulation, bathroom privileges (bedpan, commode, toilet), transferring, dressing & undressing activities, grooming activities, and positioning. Appropriately assist with household tasks directly essential to the client’s health and in accordance with the plan of care, including planning and preparing nutritional meals, assisting in feeding client if appropriate, light housekeeping of client’s immediate environment, change linen, make bed, laundry of client’s clothing & bedding. Count, dispense, and assist residents with medications, complete necessary documentation. Immediately report any changes in resident’s condition, incidents, or accidents, to the Charge person. Accurately measure and record oral, rectal, auxiliary temperatures, pulse, respiration and blood pressure when ordered. Monitors residents, recognizing and reporting adverse symptoms and reactions and reports unusual changes in status to the supervisor.
Basic Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist with medications, may not administer, may remind client, read label for client, bring medications to client, position client. Client must be self-directing. Assist with feeding as necessary. Light housekeeping in client’s immediate environment. All others as assigned by supervisor. _
Education Required:
_ Personal Care aides shall have completed an approved PCA training program. High School Diploma or GED preferred. Ability to read, speak and write English is required.
Experience Required:
Prior experience working with the dementia resident preferred, and a genuine interest in the geriatric resident is required
Equipment Used:
Oxygen equipment, shower chairs, commodes, urinals, grab bars, walkers, wheelchairs, and all other generally required nursing equipment. Valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle required.
Working Conditions:
May require travel/transportation of residents as needed. Weekends, holidays, overtime as needed. May be required to work past regular shift, or off-shifts as necessary. Working conditions for this position may include the following: inside, odors, sometimes low lighting, and working independently.
Physical Demands:
Required to lift up to 25lbs throughout the shift. Must demonstrate safe use and knowledge of medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, canes, belts, splints, and braces) Constant walking, standing, turning crouching, pushing wheelchairs, sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, depth perception, and concentration are required for this position. The ability to concentrate on more than one job at a time and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks and prioritize as needed are essential.
Hazards:
Exposure to the following may be present in this position: Blood-borne pathogens and infectious body fluids/waste. Needles Combative residents Disinfectants and cleaners
Personal Protective Equipment & Uniform Requirements:
Nursing/scrub uniforms with appropriate footwear. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when performing personal care, dealing with blood or body spills, and working with chemicals (cleaning agents). Gloves (non-latex). Bethany Village photo I.D.
Additional Qualifications:
Must be able to communicate with co-workers, residents, and the families of the residents. Dependable, prompt, tactful, patient, a desire to work with geriatric residents.
