Job Summary:
Assist assigned special education student in the classroom by providing appropriate support while implementing the goals and objecties of the Individual Education Plan (IEP). Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to information concerning students, personnel, and other administrative matters affecting the district.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Maintain the safety of the student providing a safe, organized environment for effective and independent learning. Provide students with supportive and supplemental instructional assistance, such as reviewing and reinforcing skills and concepts. Follow the teacher’s plans while working with the student and encouraging independence. Modify and adapt school papers to allow the student to participate in class. Escort the student to and from classrooms and accompany to recess. Accompany the student to mobility training in the community and on field trips when necessary. Observe and intervene to redirect disruptive, inappropriate behavior; direct and keep the student on-task. Encourage methods of socialization with peers. Assist students using educational games, audio visuals, and computer assisted instruction. Maintain daily logs for care given to the student and provide them to the Director of Special Education. Maintain additional logs as per the IEP student needs. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Education & Experience:
Must have Associate’s degree or higher or pass a local assessment test or hold at least forty-five (45) college credits or evidence of successful completion of required state test In-person CPR Training
REQUIRED.
Yearly paraprofessional training required – with a minimal of twenty (20) hours of training yearly Must complete a PDE state approved crisis intervention restraint training shortly after being hired
Physical Requirements:
Ability to reach above and below the waist Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion Considerable bending and twisting of the body required Some stooping and squatting required Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 25 lbs. Ability to stand for long periods of time of the workday
Level of Compensation:
This position’s salary is determined by the collective bargaining plan for Support Staff employees. The starting salary for this position is $19.90/hour. After the completion of the 90-day probationary period, this position is eligible for a raise to bring the salary to $20.40/hour.
