Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate Cumbee Center 254 Beaufort St NE, Aiken, SC 29801
Status:
Part-Time (30 hours or less weekly), non-exempt, weekends and holidays
Summary:
Shelter Advocate ensures the overall safety and security of the shelter during the weekend and holidays. Support and maintains communal living functionality.
Essential Functions:
Provide advocacy and support to victims of domestic and sexual violence and their children Answer the telephone and provide services and/or referrals as needed Complete intakes and shelter orientation for clients entering the shelter Understands and communicates shelter guidelines and household responsibilities to residents as outlined in shelter policy manual Consistently enforces all shelter policies Makes regular reports to shelter management using daily logs, forms, emails and phone calls Maintain accurate documentation, provides pertinent data for grant reports Facilitate cooperative living, peer support, and resident participation in shelter programming Promptly address difficulties or problems; mediates and de-escalates Take appropriate steps to deal with emergency situations with the goal of maintaining safety for all residents Ensure that all routine chores and cleaning tasks are performed and address emergency facility issues as they arise Complete and document daily safety checks including frequent walk thru of facility. Prepare a variety of foods according to a preplanned meal calendar Maintain a neat and orderly work atmosphere and environment Assist with shelter housekeeping duties including organization and putting away goods Communicate with staff regarding resident and facility issues Remain awake and alert during assigned shifts Attend staff meetings, every quarter or as instructed by supervisors All other duties deemed necessary by

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to clearly communicate with others; ability to work in complex situations and manage multiple tasks and crisis situations; ability to maintain and promote positive working relationships within Cumbee Center; good understanding of domestic and sexual violence and its effects of clients and their families; effective use of time and resources to help maintain quality services. Ability to ascend or descend stairs as well as the mobility to perform physical tasks that are required in assisting residents and addressing emergency situations. Ability to lift and transport supplies or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds, while ascending or descending stairs.
