The ideal candidate will be patient and friendly with excellent communication skills. You should be able to follow instructions and perform a variety of tasks to support my son and help him continue to build independence in his daily activities and engagement in the community. He has no physical disabilities, is verbal and conversational but has cognitive disabilities which require him to be supervised at all times. He also is experiencing high levels of anxiety that we are working with, so patience and support is a must. Experience with emotional coping skills a plus! Parent is a work from home professional in the field of autism. Training and support will be provided on skill acquisition goals and prompt levels/support needed to maintain current skills. Parent will be onsite 100% during the first month or more, and generally only offsite for personal appointments on occasion. This position is 3 weekdays from 10am-6pm (24hours ) Mon/Tues/Thur. The hours and days are not flexible, these are the days and hours I need. Hours are funded through a DDSN waiver and applicant is paid through disability board. Must pass SLED and DSS background checks and complete training modules and all requirements of respite and attendant care programs. Caregiver must be willing to be active (walks, games, outdoors) and also willing to take my son out 1-2x per week (I will cover expenses) to be engaged in the community (shopping, bowling, movies, parks etc). Reliable transportation and good driving record is a MUST for this position. My son is independent or developing independence in making simple meals, doing chores and most ADLs, but needs supervision, light assistance and companionship throughout his days. He is a sweet, gentle and funny kid, very easy to get along with – I just need help ensuring he has a full, happy and active life while I work.
