Job Description

Rapid Rehousing Case Manager Specialist First Light, Inc. 2230 4th Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203 Rapid Rehousing helps individuals and families move directly from homelessness into housing by locating appropriate housing and providing flexible financial assistance, if needed. Rapid Rehousing strives to resolve barriers to housing stability to promote housing stability and is a short-term intervention that serves as a bridge to permanent housing. First Light is looking to fill a case manager position in its Rapid Rehousing Program. Qualified candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human service field of study
  • Sensitive to the needs of homeless and other underserved population
  • Have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
  • Ability to use a computer, have good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Able to be flexible and appropriately handle stressful situations Provides on call coverage as needed as part of the programmatic team rotation Attends internal and external meetings on behalf of the Agency, as needed; and Principle Responsibilities, Accountabilities, & Duties
  • Assist clients in apartment searches, working with landlords, and other activities to ensure self-sufficiency and housing stability
  • Assist clients with developing goals related to identified needs, monitor progress, and adjust/modify goals as needed Act as liaison with participant’s landlords and maintain effective communication and work with both tenants and landlords to review lease agreements and housing inspections Meet with participants in their homes, at least 2x monthly and more often as appropriate, to assess needs specifically related to sustaining housing Assist tenants with complying with the terms of their lease agreements, address participant and landlord concerns in a timely manner and resolve conflicts and complaints, as needed Assist clients in obtaining and maintaining permanent housing, assist in providing rental assistance, supportive services including, basic and independent living skills, training, supervision, and referrals and support, as needed Complete referrals and provide for appropriate services, including housing, health care, hygiene, life skills, mental health, addiction, employment, and education Interested persons should send their resume to Byanca Underwood byanca@firstlightshelter.
