This role is responsible for welcoming clients, conducting initial needs assessments, gathering documentation, and facilitating referrals to shelter, housing, case management, or supportive services. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment. Key Responsibilities Client Intake & Assessment Greet all individuals with empathy and professionalism. Conduct intake interviews using standardized tools to assess client needs, eligibility, and service priorities. Collect and verify documentation such as ID, income status, housing history, and other required information. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices. Documentation & Data Entry Accurately input and update client data in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) or internal database. Maintain complete, timely, and organized records of all interactions and services provided. Track and report intake trends, demographics, and service gaps as requested. Resource Connection & Navigation Provide clients with information about available programs including emergency shelter, transitional housing, mental health services, and public benefits. Collaborate with case managers, outreach workers, and external partners to coordinate next steps for clients. Facilitate warm handoffs and referrals for clients needing immediate intervention. Crisis Response De-escalate tense or emotional situations using nonviolent communication and conflict resolution skills. Identify and respond to urgent needs such as domestic violence, medical emergencies, or unsafe conditions. Team Collaboration Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and trainings. Support special events, outreach efforts, and seasonal programs (e.g., cold weather shelter intakes). Provide backup coverage at front desk or for other intake staff as needed.

Qualifications Required:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field preferred. One year of experience in intake, case management, or customer service in a human services setting. Strong communication, interpersonal, and data entry skills. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals in crisis or from diverse backgrounds. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and client databases (e.g., HMIS).

Preferred:

Bilingual (Spanish/English or other language). Familiarity with housing-first models, harm reduction, or trauma-informed care. CPR, de-escalation, or mental health first aid certifications. Work Environment & Physical Demands Work is performed in an office or drop-in center setting with frequent in-person interaction. Must be able to sit, stand, and move throughout the day; occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs). May require occasional evening or weekend shifts during high-demand periods. Salary $40,000.00
