Purpose and Impact:

The Counselor II assists inthe provision of services to families by providing individual andfamily counseling, case management services to include but are notlimited to referrals, follow-up, advocacy, etc. This is a directcare position. This role serves Crestview, Fort Walton Beach andthe surrounding communities. Candidates should be aware thatserving clients in the local communities is required.

EssentialFunctions:

Provide individual, group, and family counseling to youth andtheir families within the home and communities of the clients. Provide crisis intervention counseling to families in crisis,as assigned. Assist in the completion of comprehensive assessments offamilies in crisis. Perform case management duties and be accessible “on call” toassigned clients on a 24-hour basis. Provide direct support to client families in implementing theircase plan through constructive, active participation in familylife. Teach and assist parents in meeting the physical, mental, andemotional needs of their children. Maintain an active caseload as assigned. Assist in the coordination of other community-based services toadvocate the needs of clients on the caseload. Assist in the provision of appropriate referrals for clientsand assist in linkage to those referrals as necessary. Maintain professional communications and teamwork asappropriate contacts occur with the referral agency. Serve as advocate for family preservation/unity. Assist in the provision of follow-up monitoring and services tofamilies on closed case status. Attending staff meetings, supervision sessions, andinter-agency staffing on clients as required. Compile required reports on families in caseload and submit tosupervisor in a timely manner, including progress notes, reports toappropriate agencies (e.g., DJJ & C & F) and courts as the needsdictate. Adhere to professional standards and ethics. Serves as a referral liaison by presenting agency services toschools and community agencies and organizations. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Ability and flexibility to work extended hours and be flexiblewith scheduling Valid state driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.

Education:

Master’s degree in human services field is required.

Experience:

Two or more years’ experience in adolescent and familycounseling, facilitating group sessions, and performing intake,psychosocial/risk assessments. Experience with troubled youth andtheir families.

Skills:

Good written and verbal communication, timemanagement, organizational and interpersonal leadership skills.

Ability to function in a team setting, and professionally serve adiverse multi-cultural client population. Dependability,discretion, and good judgement are essential. Must possess theability to establish and maintain effective relationships withco-workers and the general public. Must be able to function in thecommunity without the presence of direct supervision. Must be ableto maintain high level of professional responsibility in reportingactivities, conduct and schedule to supervisor. BilingualEnglish/Spanish or English/Haitian Creole preferred.
