Job Overview:

The Family Support Services (FSS) Counselor at Children’s Harbor, Inc. provides in-home counseling to families at risk of child removal due to safety concerns. Working with referrals from multiple sources, including the Department of Children and Families (DCF), ChildNet, and schools, the FSS Counselor’s primary role is to support the family in safely maintaining the child within the home. Using evidence-based approaches like the Nurturing Skills curriculum and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the Counselor addresses family needs, ensures the child’s immediate protection, and facilitates connections to additional resources as necessary.

Friday Full-Time Primary Job Responsibilities:

Manage a caseload of 10-12 families, conducting initial assessments to develop treatment plans. Meet weekly with assigned families for in-home counseling, addressing each unique treatment plan. Utilize CBT and Nurturing Skills interventions to help prevent child abuse and neglect. Conduct psychoeducational support groups every 2-3 months with other FSS Counselors. Link families to community resources and report any suspected abuse as a mandated reporter. Document client interactions and progress within 48 hours, maintain accurate client files and adhere to reporting requirements. Be available evenings for scheduled sessions and 24/7 for crisis intervention. Meet productivity and documentation standards for face-to-face and case management hours. Submit weekly schedules, billing sheets, and progress notes to the FSS Supervisor. Achieve 24 units of weekly productivity, averaging 22 hours of client contact and 2 hours of case management. Meet documentation timelines, maintain error-free records, and demonstrate positive client outcomes per contract standards (e.g., 75% case success, 90% client satisfaction).

Qualification:
Education:

Preferred Master’s degree in a human services field.

Experience:

Minimum three years of experience providing direct services to children, youth, or families, with solid counseling and case management skills.

Skills:

Effective verbal and written communication, conflict resolution, and an understanding of cultural diversity.

Other Requirements:
