SUMMARY:
The Homeless Prevention Intake Specialist is responsible for working with families requesting services through our Homeless Prevention Program who are at-risk of becoming homeless.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Conducts intake interviews and assessments over phone or in-person and assesses appropriateness of requests for service. Completes Intake paperwork at the time of program enrollment. Works county-wide to identify, engage and screen families at imminent risk of homelessness. Assesses and evaluates need for immediate crisis intervention. Refers cases to other agencies as appropriate. Assists families in finding alternative resources in the community if the program is at capacity or if they do not meet program eligibility criteria. Responsible for establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with social service providers. Educates community providers on program criteria. Attends community meetings and resource fairs for outreach and network with referral sources. Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or other related fields from an accredited institution required. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in human services. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Knowledge of issues surrounding homelessness/community services; advocacy and mediation skills. Demonstrated sensitivity and ability in working with the diversity of the agency’s population, including but not limited to, clients, staff, community partners, and board of directors. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Maintain confidentiality of client information. Enter client information into database. Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, kneel, bend, reach, and manipulate objects; move materials up to 5 pounds on a regular basis; infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds. Some local travel required. Must have a reliable car, active auto insurance, and valid Florida driver’s license. Successfully complete a Level 2 criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, and drug screening.
