WORK SCHEDULE
Five Days per week, 40 Hours per week, 12 Months per year General Description The Youth Care Worker Travel Chaperone is responsible for the meaningful engagement of unaccompanied children (UC’s), with the aim of meeting their developmental, cultural, and care needs by ensuring their day-to-day care, actively participating in program activities, supporting the UC’s case plan and developing their personal skills. The Youth Care Worker Chaperon is responsible for escorting and transferring physical custody of Unaccompanied Children (UC) from the assigned emergency shelter to another Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) shelter or to a sponsor. The Youth Care Worker Chaperon is required to maintain a flexible, organized, and efficient work schedule and is subject to work extended hours, and weekends and be on-call. The ideal candidate can work independently and as a team player. Must be able to travel weekly for up to two overnight trips per week. The temporary assignment may last up to a three-month period with limited scheduled days off. Travel expenses paid, plus competitive hourly wage. About You You should like working with children of all ages. Should be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. As a Youth Care Worker, you will be a positive role model for our program’s participants, helping them make better choices and preparing them to effectively face life’s challenges. Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited college (a high school diploma with two or more years of relevant experience may be substituted for an associate degree) Two years of documented experience in a field related to human services or a similar occupation Experience working with at-risk youth Basic computer skills Bilingual (English/Spanish) Clear criminal background check and drug screen Clear Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) or child protective services check Clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) What You’ll Be Doing Transferring physical custody of Unaccompanied Children from the assigned emergency shelter to another ORR shelter or to a sponsor via ground or air transportation Provide direct supervision of Unaccompanied Children in transit, and always maintain line-of-sight supervision Maintain current training requirements in accordance with Urban Strategies/ORR policies and procedures for direct care standards Seek or coordinate medical care if the Unaccompanied Child(ren) becomes ill while in transit Provide meals or snacks to Unaccompanied Child(ren) while in transit Retain and transmit the Unaccompanied Child(ren)’s transport documents (copy of the DHS form I-862, Notice to Appear, and a copy of the approved identification of the sponsor picking up the child), personal property, and prescription medication Complete all required paperwork upon transfer of custody of the Unaccompanied Child(ren). Verify the identity of the sponsor prior to the sponsor taking physical custody of the Unaccompanied Child(ren). Able to drive either 12 to 15-passenger vehicles, mini-vans, or cars Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned Will be required to attend training for Defensive Driving, State-specific Food Handlers certification, First Aid/CPR, and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) About Urban Strategies Urban Strategies exists to equip, resource and connect faith- and community-based organizations so that all children and families can reach their full potential.
