Sexual Assault Center of the Coastal Empire (formerly Rape Crisis Center) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources and advocacy to survivors of sexual assault and prevention education to youth and adults within a seven-county service area (Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, Evans, Liberty, Long, and Tattnall counties). To fulfill our mission, Mary’s Place offers specific services to all clients, including Case Management, Counseling, Advocacy, and Crisis Intervention. The Bilingual Survivor Support Advocate reports to the Executive Director and assists with ensuring that survivors of sexual assault are offered accessible, safe, trauma-informed services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This role provides the following direct services to survivors of sexual violence: crisis response, advocacy within the various systems of care, and resource and referral. The Bilingual Survivor Support Advocate also attends meetings and represents sexual assault services in the community, attends sexual assault services outreach events, assists with grant writing, co-facilitates Survivor Support Group, and completes documentation of services. Primary Position Duties:
Crisis Response Coordination Ensure crisis response advocacy coverage (hospital and in-house) during business hours. Answers crisis line calls during business hours and serves on the rotating on-call schedule as Manager on Duty. Assist with keeping all Sexual Assault Nurse Examination (SANE) office supplies stocked and notify Executive Director of needs or orders/purchases. Assist with the processing of SANE invoices when submitted by the SANE Coordinator. Serve as an On-Call Manager on Duty Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train, and schedule Crisis Advocacy Response Team volunteers. Maintain positive rapport, keep in contact with, and express appreciation for volunteers. Sexual Assault Case Management Ensure the completion of all survivor support advocacy follow-up calls within 24/48 hours of initial contact with the survivor. Staff cases as necessary. Ensure the referral of individuals to appropriate community resources, both internal and external, for additional assistance including the criminal and civil justice systems. Accompany clients to social service, court and other appointments, as needed. Administrative Provide record keeping and complete monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required by funding sources. Keep any other records necessary to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with agency, funding, and legal requirements. Create and update client’s electronic case files according to policy and procedure. Provide Sexual Assault Nurse Examination (SANE) charts to Law Enforcement, upon request. Prepare/print relevant materials to be provided to survivors. Develop and update Information and Referral Resource information. Utilize internal systems that will make certain all resource information is readily available to the Volunteer Coordinator, staff, volunteers, and clients. Assist with grant writing as needed.
Support Mary’s Place:
Sexual Assault Center of the Coastal Empire programs and collaboration efforts Build and maintain positive relationships with the SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) and attend Chatham County SART meetings. Attend meetings and represents sexual assault services in the community. Expand agency reach by networking and establishing relationships with leaders throughout the seven-county service area. Develop new strategies for collaborating with community partners. Plan, orchestrate, and execute community outreach efforts to promote Mary’s Place’s services. Collaborate with other staff members as needed for client referrals, donation needs, or volunteer opportunities. Co-facilitate Survivor Support Group for the Spanish speaking population Complete other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications:
Associate’s level degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Criminal Justice, or a related field or two years of relevant experience. (Bachelor’s level degree preferred) Fluent in both Spanish and English (written and verbal) Experience in intervention/human services. Sensitivity to survivor’s rights and sexual assault issues. Understanding of sexual violence and related issues and/or willingness to learn. Demonstrated cultural competency in working with marginalized communities. Flexibility and ability to manage time and tasks effectively required. Must be willing to be on-call forsurvivor support advocacy (after hours and weekends), as scheduled. Access to reliable private transportation with appropriate license and insurance and ability to travel throughout the service area. Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screen. Business casual attire. Public Relations and Communications skills Knowledge of community resources Completion of required Agency Training within one month of employment. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Work Location:
One location with travel to community meetings and partners and to attend forensic exams at hospitals. Physical Demands Occasional lifting and hauling of supplies 30 pounds and less; travel and attend offsite meetings.
