DESCRIPTION
Position Summary:

The Employment Specialist plays a critical role in helping program participants navigate the complexities of employment, career readiness, and long-term stability. This position provides comprehensive employment support, including job coaching, resume building, interview preparation, and professional development. Additionally, the specialist will assist individuals in overcoming employment barriers by connecting them with problem-solving resources, housing solutions, and social services to ensure lasting success. A key component of this role involves building and maintaining partnerships with local employers, workforce development agencies, training providers, and housing organizations to create sustainable pathways for participants. The ideal candidate is passionate about workforce development, skilled in relationship-building, and experienced in coordinating wraparound services that lead to long-term self sufficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Employment & Career Development Conduct intake assessments to evaluate participants’ skills, employment history, and career goals. Develop individualized employment plans tailored to each participant’s strengths, needs, and aspirations. Provide resume and cover letter assistance, interview coaching, and job application support. Facilitate job readiness workshops, including workplace professionalism, communication skills, and conflict resolution. Support participants in securing livable-wage employment opportunities and career advancement. Track employment outcomes and provide post-placement support to ensure job retention and success. Partnership Development & Stakeholder Engagement Establish and maintain relationships with employers, workforce training providers, and industry leaders to create job opportunities for participants. Develop partnerships with apprenticeship programs, vocational schools, and community colleges to expand training options. Work closely with staffing agencies and hiring managers to match participants with appropriate job opportunities. Collaborate with housing agencies, government programs, and nonprofit organizations to connect participants with stable housing solutions. Attend networking events, job fairs, and industry meetings to advocate for participant employment and housing needs. Engage with funders and external stakeholders to support program growth and sustainability. Problem-Solving & Barrier Navigation Identify and address barriers to employment, including lack of identification, transportation challenges, childcare needs, and legal issues. Assist participants in accessing financial literacy training, credit repair resources, and benefits such as SNAP and Medicaid. Collaborate with local organizations to provide mental health support, substance use recovery resources, and professional counseling referrals. Housing Stability & Long-Term Success Connect participants with rental assistance programs, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing options. Provide guidance on tenant rights, lease agreements, and budgeting for independent living. Work closely with case managers to ensure a holistic approach to employment and housing stability. Data & Program Development Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes, progress reports, and employment outcomes using the program’s data tracking system. Assess program effectiveness by gathering participant feedback and making improvements as needed. Advocate for participants by staying informed on local workforce policies, affordable housing initiatives, and employment rights. Work with leadership to develop strategies for expanding employer partnerships and improving job placement outcomes.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Workforce Development, Business, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered). 2+ years of experience in employment services, job coaching, workforce development, or case management. Strong relationship-building skills and experience working with employers, training providers, and community partners. Knowledge of barriers to employment, social determinants of health, and housing instability. Strong understanding of resume development, job placement strategies, and employer engagement. Experience working with individuals facing homelessness, substance use challenges, or justice system involvement. Excellent communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple relationships with external stakeholders while prioritizing participant needs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, case management software, and data tracking systems
