JOB PURPOSE

The Peer Support Specialist supports the agency by providing hope and healing to those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault by providing peer support and creating a positivemunity living environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

Client Care
Using trauma-informed, client-centered approach:
Wee new residents to the Shelter, introducing residents to other staff and help residents understand Shelter policies.
Provide individualized, ongoing guidance, coaching, and support while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Assist in developing formal and informalmunity supports.
Assist in increasing social support networks of relatives and friends.
Support effective delivery of services through crisis intervention, safety planning, assessing client needs, and support groups.
Work closely with residential staff to identify, assess and support residents with substance abuse and behavioral health issues.
Consistently role-model appropriate behaviors, emotions, andmunication skills by demonstrating effective approaches to anger management, conflict, resolution, and problem-solving, and work with residents to teach skills necessary to function in amunity living environment.
Provide crisis intervention services by telephone or in person as necessary including responding to hotline calls.
Promote a safemunity living environment within shelter by helping residents understand and ad to shelter policies.
Assist in relapse prevention by ensuring transportation to local AA/NA meetings including driving agency van when appropriate.
Provide skills training through psycho- educational and education strategies.
Administration
Maintain accurate, up to date client, program and agency records, including statistics and case tracking.
Research, write and manage grant reporting and grantor relationships, as assigned by supervisor.
Ad to agency procedures concerning Critical Incident s and Client Satisfaction surveys and participate in the Quality Assurance process.
Stewardship
Increasemunity awareness of victimization, prevention, and available resources through public speaking and media requests as assigned by supervisor
Support agency mission by staffing events or outreach activities as requested by supervisor.
Support agency mission by participating in agency andmunity meetings andmittees as requested by supervisor.
Work to ensure goals and oues for program are met.
Promote and maintains professional relationships with residents, agency staff, volunteers, andmunity partners.
Facilitate volunteers/interns through training, scheduling and support as needed.
Professional Development
Contribute to quality services by staying informed of developments and trends in the area of trauma and victimization, especially as it relates to intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and child maltreatment.
Maintain and develop skills and knowledge by attending training, especially as it relates to victimization and trauma; ensure licensure and certifications are up to date as needed for the job.
Other
Contribute to agency effectiveness by performing other agency duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED.
Lived experience of domestic violence, sexual assault or substance abuse.
Peer Support Certification preferred.
Experience working in residential setting and working with people who are experiencing substance abuse and behavioral health issues.
Experience working with victims.
Ability to work on rotating on-call basis.
Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule. Work hours vary and include evening and weekend work.
Spanish speaking preferred-if hired as a Spanish speaking staff member, candidate must be fluent in understanding, speaking, and writing in Spanish.
