  • Training in Trauma Informed Care or Motivational Interviewing
  • Creating something from nothing
  • Project creation
  • Grant writingThe WRC will recruit participants and engage them in a work-studyprogram at the King Street Laundry two half days a week.

The work islaundry for paying customers and the study is leading educationalactivities for participants to acquire employability skills. The WRCwill customize education based on the needs of each of the participantswith the goal of employment. Activities could include soft skills likecommunication and problem solving, as well as resume writing, jobsearching, computer skills, and interviewing techniques. The WRC willmake sure that participants needs for appropriate clothing and footwearfor work are met. Other supportive activities could include food, buspasses, assistance with housing applications, etc.

Participants may be referred to VCWL at KSL by various partner agenciesand/or the WRC can recruit from the free laundry event for unhousedpeople on Wednesdays. The WRC may also give presentations in prison orpresent or table at public events. The WRC may assist in fundraising andgrant-writing.

This is an evolving program. The WRC will work with supervisors (Andrew& Hannah Christiansen) to create a program that is effective in helpingpeople find and keep jobs.
