Savannah-Chatham Food Policy Council Coordinator Job Type:

Part-time contract position (25 hours per week) Job Description Healthy Savannah’s mission is to lead and support a culture of health in the Savannah area. Healthy Savannah’s work focuses on increasing equitable access to physical activity, improving food access, breastfeeding, and education and awareness for adult immunizations. The SCFPC is part of Healthy Savannah and is funded partially by the REACH grant. The Savannah-Chatham Food Policy Council Coordinator is funded by Healthy Savannah. Healthy Savannah is a coalition with over 200 partners across the community working to improve health equity in Chatham County. Healthy Savannah’s work is accomplished through collaborative action and coalition building; all stakeholders provide input and share expertise to create forward momentum, reduce barriers and deepen coalition relationships. This position will work closely with members of the Healthy Savannah team and the Nutrition Program Manager to support the implementation, coordination, and support day-to-day operations of the Savannah-Chatham Food Policy Council (SCFPC). SCFPC Vision All Savannah Chatham County communities eat affordable, nutritious, locally, and sustainably grown food. SCFPC Mission The mission of the Savannah Chatham County Food Policy Council is to coordinate and communicate efforts that develop, support, and promote policies that impact equitable access, sustainable production, and widespread understanding of healthy local food. Responsibilities

  • Assist with community level initiatives in support of policy, system, and environmental change to promote food access, improve nutrition access, and advise on policy level changes that positively impact the food system
  • Assist Healthy Savannah Nutrition Program Manager with administrative tasks associated with daily maintenance of the Nutrition strategy and the Savannah-Chatham Food Policy Council
  • Provide support to the SCFPC including, but not limited to, recording minutes, scheduling, disseminating post meeting information, assisting with meeting organization, speaking with City/County officials about the progress of the SCFPC, and co-leading community meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with nutrition stakeholders and decision makers in developing and achieving strategy specific goals and objectives to advance the vision, mission, and key priorities of the SCFPC
  • Represent Healthy Savannah and the SCFPC at community events, coalition meetings, and meetings with partners.
  • Provide administrative support for all activities related to the
SCFPC Essential Duties:
  • Schedules and communicates the SCFPC meeting schedule with members, the community and other key stakeholders
  • Engages with community members to educate about the current initiatives of the SCFPC and build rapport.
  • Represents Healthy Savannah and the SCFPC to engage additional experts in the food system
  • Work alongside PR team to coordinate messaging about the SCFPC with the public through news articles, print media, and news interviews as required
  • Corresponds via email and phone calls with broader Healthy Savannah team, SCFPC members, and other key partners
  • Responds to emails from the SCFPC email address in a timely manner Qualifications
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Knowledge of public health/community health principles and practices
  • Strong knowledge of health equity and a commitment to addressing the social determinants of health
  • Experience with community engagement, outreach, and partnership development
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, Outlook and ability to learn other platforms as needed
  • Proven ability to work independently and take initiative in executing tasks with minimal supervision
  • Consistently demonstrates strong problem-solving skills, effective time management, and a proactive approach to meeting deadlines
  • Ability to foster positive staff, peer, and community relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities Work environment Healthy Savannah has a hybrid work environment with the flexibility to work from home and regularly commute to events and meetings in Savannah and Chatham County.

Candidate should live within commuting distance of Chatham County, Georgia. Candidates should have access to a Wi-Fi enabled electronic device (laptop or tablet) for online meetings and webinars etc. Flexibility to be scheduled night and weekend work -but will be very limited
