Salary:

$20/hour (1st Month); $25/hour following training with max of 40 hours per month DeKalb County Commissioner Ted Terry seeks multiple Community Outreach Fellows to engage in constituent outreach and engagement work in Super District 6. Community Outreach Fellows will play a key role in building relationships with residents and neighborhoods across Super District 6. This is an excellent opportunity to develop leadership, presentation, and communication skills while learning how to build movements to achieve positive change in our community.

Essential Functions:

Responsible for direct community outreach, attending and tabling events, volunteer recruitment and training, and office work as assigned. Community outreach includes, but is not limited to, constituent canvassing, phone banking, and texting. Engage with the public through street canvassing in assigned areas, including high foot traffic locations, neighborhoods, or events. Set up and manage information tables at community events, public spaces, and other outreach locations. Identify, recruit, train, and develop volunteers. Organize volunteer events, including creating a checklist for covering tables, signage, check-in stations, etc. Light office work may include answering phones, stuffing envelopes, greeting visitors, etc. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED; and any experience that would have provided excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a willingness to learn and adapt; an ability to work in office, outdoor and virtual environments; and a willingness to interact with members of the public from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred qualifications:

Any experience working or volunteering on electoral, union, or community organizing campaigns. Public speaking skills and/or experience leading group trainings is highly desirable. Possessing a reliable vehicle with current registration and insurance is desirable.

Supplemental Information:

This is a temporary merit-exempt position and serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
