If so, the City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services Department is seeking a highly resourceful, adaptable, multi-tasker with solid critical thinking and communications skills for our Part-Time Community Relations Coordinator position. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a liaison between the Solid Waste Services Department and the citizens by assisting with education and outreach, developing clear and concise web and social media content, providing citizen education and coordinating programs that facilitate citizen participation. This position also assists with the marketing of solid waste yard waste products and services and aids in community outreach related to the sale of those products. This role will lead the effort to develop communication and education resources that are used to educate the citizens on service line requirements.

Work Hours:
This position is part time, 20 hours per week. Times are flexible dependent upon events but will require evening and weekend work hours. Duties and Responsibilities Provides professional support, coordination and implementation of community relations and outreach programs; provides and implements communications and services to inform, educate and/or address program/project issues. Provides internal and external reception and customer service by answering and prioritizing calls, greeting customers and providing information and services related to Solid Waste Services; responds to inquiries, complaints and requests for information; assists with forms; takes messages; and refers customers to appropriate resource Manages projects and City initiatives that encourage, support and promote waste reduction/diversion, recycling and composting efforts; provides support, coordination, and implementation of community relations and outreach programs that encourage waste reduction/diversion and recycling initiatives. Develops and/or oversees marketing publication and presentation development related to recycling and waste diversion initiatives; prepares and maintains reports, newsletters, correspondence, and other communication documents; provides and implements communications and services to inform, educate and/or address program/project issues. Provides support and facilitates multifamily community relationships; conducts site visits, hosts events, integrates waste reduction content in community communication processes/documents, training, and executing other initiatives designed to increase recycling; arranges for recycling services and conducts on-site trainings and presentations with customers; develops and implements recycling and composting education programs. Serves as a liaison between City staff, Council, agencies, organizations, donors, volunteers and/or the public; provides information and education related to City policies, partnership, and support opportunities; attends meetings and delivers presentations in support of the City’s waste and recycling initiatives. Performs research related to community education and development, identifies outreach opportunities; recommends and implements projects, events, communication processes, and outreach methods that promote effective, comprehensive and meaningful citizen engagement community relations and align with Solid Waste Services goals and initiatives. Maintains and updates database information; perform data entry into the work order system based on transactions for customers; tracks performance measures and program statistics; analyzes data; provides summary information and recommendations for program/process improvement.
Typical Qualifications Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree in a related field and two years of neighborhood outreach, citizen participation or community development experience OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
