Full Job Description Position Overview:
The Children’s Director at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church oversees and nurtures the faith development of children from nursery through elementary age. This position collaborates closely with the Christian Education Committee, the pastor, and church staff to plan and implement programs that promote spiritual growth, education, and fellowship for the church’s youngest members.
Administrative Oversight:
Provide administrative oversight of the church nursery, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Hire, train, and schedule nursery staff, ensuring appropriate coverage during Sunday services and other church events. Maintain necessary nursery supplies (e.g., diapers, wipes, snacks) and coordinate with the Mother’s Day Out/Weekday School programs to meet the needs of young families.
Children’s Programming:
Collaborate with the Christian Education Committee and the pastor to select and implement Sunday School curriculum for children, ensuring lessons are age-appropriate and spiritually enriching. Plan and coordinate monthly children’s events that encourage fellowship and faith development. Oversee children’s worship time during regular Sunday services and special events. Organize and manage Vacation Bible School (VBS), including curriculum selection, volunteer recruitment, and program execution. Provide administrative support for annual children’s events (e.g., Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Pageant). Communicate regularly with parents, volunteers, and church staff through written, verbal, and electronic means to inform them of upcoming events and programs. Attend monthly meetings of the Christian Education Committee to provide updates and receive guidance on children’s ministry needs.
Volunteer Coordination:
Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers to assist with Sunday School, nursery, and other children’s events. Distribute lesson plans and teaching materials to Sunday School teachers and volunteers. Serve as the main point of contact for children’s ministry volunteers, offering support and guidance as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
Attend weekly staff meetings and work collaboratively with the church staff. Assist in developing and managing the children’s ministry budget, ensuring resources are used effectively. Participate in church-wide events and support intergenerational activities when possible.
