09/11/2024St. Thomas the ApostleCatholic Church in South Miami, Florida has an opening for aDirector of Religious Education (DRE). This position is theprincipal lay leader of the parish administrative staff, overseeingmission areas of religious education in the parish and sacramentalpreparation in the school while serving as the point personcoordinating the ministries of the parish. This position organizesand directs the program of lifelong faith formation for allparishioners under the direction of the Pastor/ParochialAdministrator and in collaboration with the pastoral staff. Theresponsibilities of the Director of Religious Education are basedon the National Certification Standards for Lay Ecclesial Ministersserving as Parish Catechetical Leaders. As Ministries Coordinator,this position is responsible for supporting the Pastor in planning,directing, and coordinating the ministries of the parish. The DREwill supervise CCD Office Support Persons and the ParishReceptionist, as well as the volunteers, who are mostly catechists.
The St. Thomas the Apostle Director of Religious Education &Ministries Coordinator performs all duties and responsibilities inalignment with the mission, vision, and values of the CatholicArchdiocese of Miami.
Qualifications:
General Requirements Practicing Catholic who fully adheres to and models theChurch’s teachings in faith and morals. Active participation in parish life. Appropriate mental and physical health to accomplish thetasks. Be approved by the Office of Catechesis as per ArchdiocesanPolicy. Favorable reference letters. Specific Requirements – Graduate Level Theological andMinisterial Formation Master’s Degree in Theology, Pastoral Studies or related field;five (5) years of experience as an employee in a parish. Completion of Core Theological Competencies, MinisterialCourses and archdiocesan safety policies (Background Check, Virtus,etc). Completion of Catechetical Certification. 5-10 years of combined experience in management, business, andfacilities operations; non-profit preferred. Other Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes Knowledge of business and management principles involved instrategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, andcoordination of people and resources. Knowledge of modern office procedures and practices, includingrecord keeping and data security methods and techniques. Basic familiarity with accounts receivable and generalledger. Skilled in personnel administration; knowledge of humanresources policies and practices. Knowledge of basic tenets of Catholic Church and parishstructures. Must be dependable and reliable. Skilled at needs analysis, using systematic approaches toassess and identify needs. Skilled at implementing action plans. Knowledge of and skilled in communications methodologies andstrategies. Knowledge of basic project management principles. Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint arerequired. Good computer literacy, including ability to navigate onlineapplications and search engines effectively. Excellent customer service skills, including ability tomaintain focus on and professionalism with people in challengingsituations, both in person and by phone. Good time management, including ability to manage severalprojects at the same time. Must be supportive of the mission and tenets of the RomanCatholic Church. Must have a professional demeanor.
