Pius X Catholic Church, New Orleans Staff Position:
Director of Religious Education The Director of Religious Education (DRE) is responsible for sharing in the ministry of the pastor of St. Pius X parish in his duty to catechize our parishioners and lead them to a deeper encounter with Jesus Christ and a profound love for His Church. The DRE will work collaboratively with the pastor and all members of the parish and school staff to advance this mission of catechesis, proclaiming the Gospel, and forming disciples of Jesus. This is an hourly position. Work responsibilities will average approximately twenty hours a week. Salary will be commensurate with experience. This position will require regular office hours as well as some commitments on weekday evenings and Sunday mornings.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate Parish School of Religion, which meets monthly on Sundays, 9:00-10:30am. Coordinate Faith and Families (a catechesis program for all ages), which also meets monthly on Sundays, 9:00-10:30am. Coordinate Confirmation Preparation for juniors in high school. This meets seven times on weeknights and also includes a retreat and an organized service project. Coordinate Baptism registration and preparation for parents and godparents. Coordinate registration and records for those interested in becoming Catholic through OCIA (formerly known as RCIA). Coordinate Confirmation preparation for adults, as needed.
For all of these ministries:
Recruit and support catechists, with the help of pastor and parish staff. Coordinate advertising, registration, and scheduling. Order materials for catechesis. Coordinate Safe Environment training for students and parents, when required. Record sacraments in parish registers and notify other parishes whose parishioners receive sacraments at St. Pius X. Attend all necessary Archdiocesan meeting relevant to these ministries and submit necessary reports. Attend all staff meetings to coordinate with staff on catechetical ministries. If there are times when attendance is not possible, send a summary of upcoming events and requests for any needed support.
Professional Requirements:
Must be an active, practicing Catholic in good standing, striving to live in conformity with the moral teachings of the Church. Masters in Theology or Pastoral Ministry or a Catechetical Certificate is required. Must have the knowledge and desire to hand on the Catholic Faith. Must enjoy working with parishioners and have a welcoming personality. Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
