PARISH CATECHETICAL LEADER
(RELIGIOUS
EDUCATION COORDINATOR
(PCL) Position is part-time (29 hours per week). Monday evenings (mid-September – mid-April) and some weekend days will be necessary, as well as day time. The PCL would work under the supervision of the Pastor, and in coordination with the Staff, SJRS Principal, Convocation Team, and volunteer ministers. We are looking for a team player with a flexible attitude and willingness to help with other duties when asked.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the spiritual growth of the children and youth of the parish in the areas of liturgy, faith formation and development, sacramental preparation, and evangelization. Assess the faith formation needs of the family ; Coordinate the Summer and Year-Round PREP program programs for Grades 1-8 (approximately 230 students); Program coordination includes catechist training, development and supervision of 6 family events, and responsibility of the VIRTUS program (Diocesan Safe Environment Program); Oversee sacrament preparation and catechist training; Coordinate Summer Vacation Bible School; Coordinate Children’s Liturgy of the Word Sessions; Cooperate with Faith Formation leaders of the Diocese; Equip and lead adult volunteers to help lead the children, youth, and family ministry programs of the church, in particular, the youth group; Work with volunteers to oversee regularly scheduled youth group meetings Prepare a budget for the Parish Catechetical Program and Youth Group Assist in maintaining parish database software system for informational purposes, sacrament documentation, and diocesan needs Regularly maintain social media accounts Maintain accuracy of grade completion and sacramental records Assist in parish office when needed Be present at Convocation Meeting (5-6 times per year)
GENERAL BACKGROUND, EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A core requirement is to be a fully initiated, active, and practicing Catholic, demonstrating a strong commitment to its teachings and traditions. Experience working in parish faith formation or catechetical ministry, ideally with supervisory or leadership experience, is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with parishioners, staff and volunteers. Strong organizational, administrative, and leadership skills are necessary for managing multiple programs and responsibilities. Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software, is important. Familiarity with digital tools and social media for communication and program promotion is necessary.
