Position Summary:
The Admissions Counselor is a key member of the admissions team. The Office of Admission is a very fast-paced, high-energy environment that strives to meet the demands of a dynamic, growing institution. The Admissions Counselor must be flexible and adapt to change quickly. This position represents the University to prospective students and their families through high school visits, participation in college fairs, and counseling during on-campus visits. Due to the nature of the work, weekend and evening hours may be required beyond normal work hours with flexibility in establishing a balanced work schedule.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
Under the direction of the Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for managing recruitment efforts in an assigned geographic territory. This includes the evaluation of markets and maintaining a positive relationship with high school guidance counselors, key school contacts for appropriate talent based recruiting, prospective students, families, and anyone involved in the college admissions process. Will represent the university at recruitment events on and off campus throughout the year. This includes but is not limited to college fairs, high schools, campus tours, conferences, and other events where prospective students may be present. Overnight travel along with frequent evening and weekend work during the academic year will be required with a proactive approach to balancing the work schedule. In addition, the Admissions Counselor will be responsible for staying in contact with prospective students and parents through out the entire admission’s process to achieve the organization’s enrollment goals in the territory and overall objective. Consistent communication is required for all counselors, have a daily call volume requirement that will increase as each start term approaches. This includes data entry and note taking in the CRM system. Maintains communication with students keeping them updated on their status and encouraging them to complete the next stage in the process. Assists prospective students and families with the admission and enrollment process through telecounseling, on-campus meetings, email, and text. Reviews admission files and makes admission decisions. Performs general administrative office tasks including answering phones, returning emails, and other customer service functions. Assists with communication to faculty and other campus offices regarding student applicants. Assists with the execution of admissions related events. Other assignments as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
As appropriate, this position may be required to perform other functions associated with recruitment. This may include, but is not limited to, e-communications or social media management, coordination of special populations or selected scholarship application processes, or ordering of promotional materials and products. Establish and maintain contacts, processes, and procedures with the appropriate departments. (i.e., Business Office, Registrar, Residential Life, and Financial Aid). Comfortable attending professional development conferences and events.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to promote a professional image when working with students and/or families, faculty and staff, administrators from other agencies, college alumni and others. Demonstrated ability to interact in a customer-friendly manner. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work assignments and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Flexibility to work alone and with a team. Ability to approach recruitment and territory management with creative and innovative ideas. Comfortable working in an environment where evening and weekend work is required. Demonstrated proficiency with database management, Salesforce, Microsoft Outlook, word processing, and spreadsheets applications. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to perform extensive travel throughout the state of Georgia.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree. 1-2 years of work experience, preferably in college enrollment services office or in a sales or customer service-related environment. Computer literate, including database, word processing, spreadsheet, and Internet applications. Demonstrated skills in communications, interpersonal relations, and problem solving. This position is located within a general office environment and at high schools or throughout the community. The employee must have the ability to walk between buildings on campus or to represent the institution, lift up to thirty pounds, and be able to work sitting down or driving for long periods of time.
